FOLDING WARDROBE.

SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 710,680, dated October 7, 1902. Application filed January 25, 1902. Serial No. 91,141. (No model.)

Beit known that I, HENRY M. GREENFIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia,State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Folding Wardrobes, of which the following is a specification.

Myinvention consists of a wardrobe formed of parts that may be readily folded and adapted to be placed in a corner or on the side wall of an apartment, the construction being hereinafter described, and the novel features pointed out in the claims.

Figures 1, 2, and 4 represent perspective views taken from the rear of a folding wardrobe embodying my invention. Fig. 3 repreresents a vertical section on line a: :0, Fig. 2.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a frame; B, sliding doors that are fitted thereto, the upper and lower cross pieces or bars 0 D of said frame having grooves or rabbets therein in which tongues projecting from the adjacent portions of the doors are freely fitted and are furthermore provided with plates E, which overlap the ends of said doors, whereby the said doors are surely retained in position and nicely guided in their opening and closing motions.

F designates top pieces, and G designates bottom pieces, which are hinged to the back of the frameA, and H designates side pieces, which are also hinged to said back, it being noticed that said pieces G and H may be set out from said back for use and folded thereagainst when not in use. When the sliding doors are closed, they form continuities of the front side pieces H of the frame. When the said doors are opened they pass behind said pieces. In Fig. l the top and bottom pieces are of angular form and constitute the roof and floor of the wardrobe adapted to be placed in the corner ofa room. In this case the pieces H are folded against the back of the frame A, leaving the side and rear portions of the wardrobe open,which,however, will be closed when the article is placed in position by the adjacent walls which form said corner. lVhen, however, it is desired to place the wardrobe on the side of a room, the angular pieces F and Gare removed and the quadrilateral ones (shown in Figs. 2 and 4) are substituted therefor. In this case the pieces H are unfolded and set in a right-angular position outward from the back of the frame A, thus forming the sides of the wardrobe, it being noticedithat as the prevent the wardrobe from tilting over, the

frame is provided with the hooks J, which may be connected with eyes in the wall, as shown dotted in Fig. 3, the effect'of which is evident. The hooks when not in use may be folded compactly on the frame.

On the bottom of the frame are feet K, which are pivoted to the same, so as to be placed in opposite positions to sustain the wardrobe, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, or may be folded, as shown in Fig. 2, it being evident that the members F G H may also be folded in compact form, making a flat package suitable for storage, handling, transportation, &c., as shown in Fig. 3,'it being evident that when the wardrobe is again required for use the parts may be readily unfolded or set in operative position and located in the corner of a room or on the side wall thereof, as before stated.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A folding wardrobe formed of a frame, top and bottom cross-bars on said frame, folding top, bottom and side pieces mounted on said-fraine,a sliding door fitted in said top and bottom cross-bars, and plates which are connected with said door and freely overlap said bars.

2., Afoldingwardrobe,consistingofa frame composed of top, bottom and side members, a door on said frame, folding top, bottom and side pieces mounted on said frame, a folding device for connecting the frame With a wall and a foot for supporting said frame, said foot being centrally pivoted to the bottom of said frame and'adapted to be placed in transverse and longitudinal directions thereon.

In a folding wardrobe,a frame composed of top, bottom. and side members, a sliding door mounted thereon, folding side, top and bottom pieces on said frame, foldingfeet, the latterbeing connected with the bottom member of theframe anda hook which is connected with the upper member of said frame.
