To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN A. KULIER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Portable Canvas Locker, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact clescription.

This invention relates to portable lockers or protective inclosures for wearing apparel, and is especially adapted for use in factories or similar places where the garments not used during working hours can be stored away and locked, although the invention may be so embodied as to be suitable for use in home closets for protecting garments from dust and moths.

The invention has for its general objects to provide a locker or holder for garments or otheriwearing apparel which is of comparatively simple and inexpensive construction, reliable and eflicient in use, and so designed that it takes the form of a roomy compartment with a minimum amount of framework.

A more specific object of the invention is the provision of a canvas or other locker or inclosure which includes a top frame and a front frame whereby the canvas or fabric body will assume the form of a compartment, there being associated with the front frame, door frames which are covered with canvas or fabric whereby the locker can be securely closed.

A further object of the invention is to so construct the front and door frames and to so connect the top and front frame that the locker can be folded into a comparativelysmall space when not in use.

Still another object is to provide means whereby thecanvas body can be detached from the frames for the purpose of cleaning it whenever it is required.

WVit-h such objects in view, and others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be set forth with particularity in the following description and claims appended hereto.

Referring to the drawings, A designates thebody of the locker or closet, which body may be made of canvas or other suitable material, and the proportions or shape may be varied as desired. Within the top of the body A is a horizontal frame B made of metal rod stock, and attached to the side members 1 of the top frame are hangers 2. On these hangers is a horizontal bar 3 which serves to hold garment hangers, although The front frame C is of rectangular form and made of rod metal stock, and comprises side members 6 and 7 and top members 8' and 9. The top of this frame is hingedly connected with the top frame by any suitable means, such as eyes 10 formed on the frame B and engaged around the top bar 8. The side members 6 and 7 are each made of two sections a and b of substantially equal length and hingedly connected by a lock joint 11, which look joint comprises an eye 12 and a pintle 13 which passes through the eye and which has an extension 14 formed with a lug 15 which engages in a recess 16 formed on the eye-carrying member. When the lug is engaged in the recess the upper and lower sections a and b are in alinement and'hold thefrontframe stiff. By

The top frame also includes upproperly applying pressure to the sections a and b the lock joint will break by the lug 15 moving out of the recess 16, whereby the locker can be folded in the manner shown in Fig. 3. The upper sections a fold under the top frame B, and the sections 6 fold under the sections a. The front frame has cross bars 17 and 18 adjacent the top and bottom respectively, which serve to stiffen the frame and also to hold the door frames D and E in place.

The door frame D comprises an outer vertical member 19 bent into top and bottom members 20 and 21 which terminate in hinge eyes 22 which lap around the side members 6 of the front frame. he member 19 is provided with a lock joint 23 similar to the lock joint 11 and arranged in the same horizontal plane therewith, and just above the joint 23 is a horizontal crossbar 2 1 connecting the members 6 and 19, and on this bar is a lock-receiving loop 25. The other door frame E- comprises a vertical member 26 which terminates in horizontal top and bottom members 27 and 28, respectively, which have hinge eyes 29 engaging around the side members 7 of the front frame. The hinge eyes of the two door frames cooperate with the brace bars 17 and 18 to prevent up and down movement of the door frames. The outer member 26 is made in two parts conneeted by a coupling sleeve 30, which by be ing moved downwardly permits of a break in the same plane with the joints 11 and 23, so that the door frames can be doubled in folding or collapsing the locker.

The body A is made in the form of a housing or closure which will hang in rectangular form when applied to the top and front frames. The front of the body is open so as to permit of access to the interior. At the front opening are door flaps 31 and 32 integral with the opposite side walls, and these flaps are somewhat larger than the door frames D and E, so that the marginal edges 33 of the flaps can be lapped over the top, bottom and outer edges of the door frames and fastened by stud and socket fasteners 34 or the like. The body A has portions 35 and 36 covering the top and bottom of the front frame, and the edges of these portions are lapped over the bars 17 and 18 and secured by additional fasteners 34. By the use of fasteners it will be possible to remove the canvas or other body from the skeleton-like framework for cleaning or any other purpose. The flap 32 has an opening 87 through which the loop 25 passes when the doors are closed, as shown in Fig. 1, and a padlock may be applied to the loop 25. The door frame E has on its member 26 a loop 39 so disposed that the loop 25 passes therethrough, and consequently the two doors will be securely locked together when the padlock is applied. On

the inner face of either or both doors may be arranged pockets, straps or equivalent holding devices 40 for holding articles and the like. Also in one of the doors may be provided an opening 41 behind which is a pocket 42 for receiving a nameplate or an equivalent designating device. On the top of the body is attached a pendent flap 43 which is adapted to lap over the top of the doors when closed. This flap is capable of being thrown upwardly over the top of the locker so as to be out of the way when the doors are opened. In the bottom of the body is a vertical partition 44 to divide the bottom of the body into compartments for receiving the users hat and shoes.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and method of operation will be readily under stood by those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have described the principle of operation, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A closet or locker of the class described comprising a body of plastic material, said body having an open front, a horizontal frame at the top of the body for holding the same distended, a vertical frame hingedly connected with one end of the horizontal frame and hanging therefrom to hold the body open at the front, and means for closing the front, said vertical frame being made of two sections hingedly connected, said sections being approximately of the same length as the horizontal frame, whereby the locker can be folded into a compact space.

2. A garment closet or locker comprising a body of flexible material, a frame at the top of the body to hold the same distended, said body having an open front, and a frame at the open front and composed of side members formed of upper and lower sections, one section being formed with an eye and a recess adjacent the'eye, and the other section being formed with a pintle passing through the eye and having an extension formed with a lug to yieldingly interlock in the recess of the first section, whereby the front frame can be folded.

3. A closet or locker of the class described comprising a body of flexible material open at its front, a top frame for holding the body distended, a front frame at the open front of the body, a hinge connection between the frames, said front frame being composed of upper and lower parts hingedly connected, a door frame on the front frame and composed of hingedly connected upper and lower parts, and a covering for the door frame connected with a side of the body.

4. A garment closet or locker comprising a body of flexible material, means in the top of the body to hold the same distended and also to form means for supporting garment hangers, said body being open at the front, a frame in the front of the body, hinged door frames on the front frame, interengaging means on the door frames, a lock applied to the interengaging means to lock the doors closed, said door frames being composed of upper and lower hingedly connected sections, and side flaps forming extensions of the side walls of the body and fastened to the door frames.

5. A locker for a closet of the class described, comprising a body of flexible materi'al having an opening, a frame in the top of the body to hold the same distended, a vertical frame at the front of the body and composed of upper and lower sections connected by yielding lock joints, a door frame hingedly connected with one side of the firstmentioned frame and made up of upper and lower sections connected by a yielding lock joint in line with the first-mentioned joints, a second door frame hingedly connected with the other side of the first-mentioned frame and composed of upper and lower sections, a locking sleeve in line with the said joints for normally holding the second door frame in normal condition, said sleeve being movable to permit the second door frame to fold with the other frames, and covering material on the door frames.
