Description

NITED 'STATES PATENT Ormes.
LULA s. MILLER, OF ELIZABETH, COLORADO.
PAC KAG E-WRAPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 710,332, dated September 30, 1902.
Application filed December 5, 1901. Serial No. 84,785. (No model.)
To fo whom, it may concern:
Be it known lthat I, LULA S. MILLER, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Elizabeth, in the county of Elbert andState of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Package-Vrappers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in package-wrappers constructed substantially as hereinafter shown and described, whereby an article can be quickly, readily, and neatly wrapped and then securely fastened in its wrapped condition by means of a tie attached to the wrapper and serving to strengthen the same.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of my improved packagewrapper,'the same being shown opened out for the purpose of receiving the article to be wrapped. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the wrapper in its rolled or wrapped and tied condition. Fig. 3 is a plan View of a blank from which my improved package-wrapper is constructed.
Referring now to the drawings, l is the main or body portion of the wrapper, having at one end a laterally-extending end wall 2 and at each side a laterally-extending side wall 3, the end and side walls 2 and 3 serving to form an essentially U shape in plan View when the wrapper is opened out, as shown in Fig. l. The opposite end Of the wrapper projects beyond the side walls 3 to constitute, preferably, a projecting lip or tongue 4. This projecting lip or tongue is preferably, as here shown, pointed, though the exact contour of this tongue or lip 4. may be varied without affecting the scope or spirit of my invention. Also, preferably, the free end of the side walls 3 are provided with the angular portion 5,'which extends partly along the sides of the projecting lip or tongue 4.
For the purpose of strengthening the wrapper and also providing it with a tying tape or string (preferably the former) a tape, string, or ligament 6, of any desired construction, is pasted or cemented to the center of the body portion l of the wrapper and extends from end to end thereof and also, preferably, transverse the end wall 2 and at a central point in respect thereof. This ligament or cord also extends, preferably, to the extremity of the lip or tongue 4. At the extremity of the lip or tongue 4 the cord or ligament is forked or bifurcated to form the two ends 7, and this fork or bifurcated construction may be formed by the attachment of an additional ligament, as here shown.
W'hen the wrapper is folded with the article therein, the two ends of the ligament, cord, or tape serve as means for tying bundles.
The end wall 2 serves to partially cover the article being wrapped, and the side walls 3 serve as ends when the package is wrapped, as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A packageewrapper comprising a body portion, a ligament longitudinally arranged in respect thereto, and cemented to the inner side throughout its entire length, one end of said ligament extending beyond the body portion, and a second ligament connected to the first adjacent the end off the body portion, substantially as described.
2. A package-wrapper comprising a body portion having one end and two side walls at right angles to the body portion, said side walls and end wall permanently connected, and a ligament extending longitudinally the body portion and cemented thereto, and one end of said ligament extending beyond the body portion, and said portion beyond the body portion being divided longitudinally, substantially as described.
3. An improved package-wrapper comprising a body portion having an end and two side walls extending at right angles thereto, the end and side walls being connected, the opposite end of the body portion having a lip projecting in a plane therewith, and a ligament extending longitudinal the package with an end projecting beyond the end of the said projecting lip, substantially as described.
4:. A package-wrapper comprising a body portion having a lip projecting in a plane therewith, a ligament extending longitudinally the said body portion and lip and cemented thereto, through its entire length, one end of said ligament extendingbeyond the body portion ,and a second ligament'co'nnected to the first adjacent the end of said lip, substantially as described.
ICO
portion, and said end Wall and side Walls permanently connected, thereby forming a receptacle for the article to be wrapped, a ligament extending from the outer edge of the end of the body portion and cemented thereto, said ligament extending beyond the body portion, and a second ligament connected to the first adjacent the end of the body portion, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing 25 witnesses.
