UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM D. BUTT, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
ADVERTISING DEVICE.
SPEC C ION forming part of Letters Patent No. 709,466, dated September 23, 1902-.
Application filed April 9, 1901.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, WILLIAM D. BUTT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Dements or sign-plates for telegraph-poles, the
object being to produce a simple, strong, durable, and cheap device for this purpose which can be easily, quickly, and inexpensively secured in orremoved from position on the pole.
The invention consists in certain novel and peculiar features of construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and within the frame by means of an end bar 14, adapted to fit in and close said bifurcation, and is pivoted at one end, as at 15, to the frame, its opposite end beingprovided with perforations 16, adapted to register with the perforations 18 of the lugs 17, cast with the frame, a split pin 19 or its equivalent being Serial No. 55,044. (No model.)
adapted to engage said registering perforations, and thus lock the pivoted bar 14 in place. This frame 10 is provided with eyes or loops 6 for the purpose of being secured to an ordinary spike on the telegraph-pole.
In my invention the pivoted end bar 14 is inclosed within the sides of the frame, thus enabling the end of the frame in which the bar is located to be secured closer in position to the pole or standard and at the same time protect the bar from the effects of the Weather.
From the above description it will be apparent that I have produced an advertising attachment for telegraph-poles, fence-posts, 850., which embodies the advantages enumerated and which obviously may be employed for other uses and modified in various particulars without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I new claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' An advertising device comprising a plate having internal grooves and bifurcated at its outer end, the bifurcation registering with said grooves, a slidable plate in said grooves, an end bar pivoted at one end to the sides of the bifurcation at the lower corner of the plate and inclosed within the sides of the said bifurcation, and means for securing the upper end of said bar to the plate.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WM. D. BUTT.
