Description

@with tat-125 getwtfftt ASN BLOOD, JR, OF INDEPENDENCE, IOWA. Letters Patent 70,945, dated November 19, 1867.
IMPROYED DOOR-GATGH.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it known that I, A. BLOOD, Jr., of Independence, in the county of Buchanan, and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Door-Catches; and I dohereby declare that the following is a full and complete description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a top view of the catch.
Figure 2 is a side view of the saine.
Like letters refer to like parts in the different views presented. l 4
A is'a disk, to which the arm B is attached. To this arm is secured the spring C by the screw a, which is 'placed in the slot D. This spring is capable. of being adjusted by moving it up or down the arm, the screw Fitting in the slot, and holding it secure'l when properly adjusted, according to the thickness of the door. On
the end of this spring is e. head, E, for apurpose hereafter described.
`The practical operation of this catch is as follows: The screw F is fastened into the wall behind the door in such a. manner that, as it is opened, the edge comes in contact with, the end of the head E, which, being sloping, as shown in fig-1, is pushed back by the force of the door until it is past the point b, when the head is sprung back in its place, and holds the door'in that position against the end of the arm B, which is far enough from the wall to prevent the knob from corning in contact with, and breaking or otherwise injuring it. In closing the doorthe spring operates in the same manner. Bypulling the door past the point b, it is then free, and the spring comes back into its place again.
What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-l The adjustablespring C, head E, as arranged in combination with the arms B, for the purpose and in the manner set forth.
