TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it kno'wn that I, E. F.l\/IALLORY, of West Springfield, in the County of Erie, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a newand useful Improvement in Burglar-Alarm; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a, full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those shilled in the artt0 make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specificaton.
The present invention relates to a hurglar-alarm that is so constructed and arranged in its several parts that as the do0ror window is opened to which it is applied an alarm Will he sounded, as will be now described, reference being had to the aecompanying plate of drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a. side view of the device, and
Figure 2 a, plan or top view.
A, in the drawings, represents a spring having two arms, B and B loose at one end, but a t the other formed into one and the same coil C, for impurting a spring to the nrin B". 'T0 the loose end of arm B a screw, D, is fixed by means of which the spring is fastened in place about a door or window; the head E to this screw forming an anvil, asit were, forthe end of the right-angular beht port-ion F to the other nrm l3 to strike upon. This end to bent prtion F is for carrying'a percussion-Cap or Othere'xplosive inedim. Gr, a loop arranged to slide upon and over arm B to spring A, around the sdes of which it extends, and along its length, toward the anvil-head of sorcw, where, being joined together, it passes over the surface of anvil-block E between it and the nippIe-head F, with such nipple-head resting upon its inelined surface H, and terininates in a h0ok, I, at its extreme enter end.
In the attachment of the burglar-alarm above deseribedto a door, first insert the sorew in the door-casing up to its shoulder J, or thereahouts, and at about a foot or so above the knob or latch, leaving it straight or across the casing, when, draw the hook-loop forward until its shonlder K nhuts against the head to the said screw, and then secure it by its hoo k I into the door a short distance from its edge. Now, if the door is opened, theend of the spring which rests upon the said screw-head will he'raisod, when the part attached to the door, becoming detacherl from the part on the door-casing, the u'm B is left free to fall upon thscrew-liead, whereby the cap on the nipple-end thereto will be snappcd or oxploderl,pro-lucing an alarm.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent A 1 The combination of the spring A, provided with anvilhead, iu combination with book-loop, when both are constructed and arranged together for operation, substantially as 121d for the purpose described.
E. F. MALLORY.
