CASTER FOR FURNITURE.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 7,098,` dated February 12, 1850.

To all whom z'z may concern:

Be it known that I, SALOMON BERNHARD ULMANN, a naturalized citizen of the United St-ates, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented and made a new and useful Improvement in Casters for the Feet of Furniture, Such as Pianos, Tables, Chairs, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same as invented by me.

The nature of my invention consists in bringing the center of the roller of the caster in or near the line of the center of the foot to be supported, whereby the caster is rendered less liable to be thrown out of repair and makes a better finish to the leg and foot of furniture.

For a comprehensive explanation, t-he accompanying drawings forming a part o-f this specification are referred to as follows:

A is the front elevation complete in all its parts.

B is a side elevation also complete.

C is a bottom plan complete.

The following are the parts separated. D is a ball of brass, iron, lignum vitae or other suitable material. This ball is bisected tO allow a steel plate E to come between the two halves of the ball D to afford a bearing for the axis (a a.) in the cross center of D and also to support said ball, bisected as aforesaid, at its socket-s Z) b by the set screws o c, as seen in G. E is the steel plate above referred to.

Fis the frame in which the ball D revolves.

G is a side view of the ball D'with the plate E and set screws c c.

H is the socket in which the vertical pivot Z of the frame F plays when the furniture is moved diagonally across the center of motion of the two axes of the ball D.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- Neither the ball, the socket, the vertical pivot or either of the jpivots of the ball but the combination of the whole as above substantially specified whereby the ball of the caster is enabled to revolve across the two centers of the two axes .of the ball as Set forth.
