the detailed description to follow.
UNITED STATES HENRY L. HASKELL, OF
PATENT OFFICE.
ilunrneron, MICHIGAN.
POOL-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 18, 1907.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY L. HAsKELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Ludington, in the county of Mason and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pool- T ables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in pool tables.
The objects of this invention areFirst: To provide an improved pool table by which the balls pocketed by a particular player may be delivered into a receptacle designated for the use of that player. Second: T 0 provide an improved pool table which is simple in structure and operation, and economical to produce, which is adapted to deliver the balls of a particular player into a receptacle designated for the use of that player.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part\ of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved pool table, portions being cut away to show the details of construction. Fig. 2 is a detail transverse sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1, showing the arrangement of the parts. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail view taken on line 44 of Fig. 1, showing the structure of the general receptacle. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail cross-sectional view taken on line 55 'of Fig. 2, through one of the delivery troughs or carriers. Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail view taken on a line corresponding to line 66 of Fig. 7, showing the lock for the trip rod 1*. Fig. 7 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken on line 77 of Fig. 6. Fig. 8 is an enlarged detail sectional view of a modified form of operating connection for the trip rods 1. Fig. 9 is a front elevation view of the structure appearing in Fig. 8.
In the drawing, the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines, and similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the lettered parts of the drawing, A represents the frame upon which the bed A of the table is supported, and also the operating parts. The pockets B are connected to deliver into troughs or chutes b, delivering into the centrally arranged general receptacle C. The general receptacle C is provided with a valve or false bottom C, which is yieldingly supported on the centrally arranged coiled spring 0. Projecting upwardly from the center of the false bottom or valve C is a stem 0, to the upper end of which the trip rods 1* are secured. The trip rods 1' are arranged through key-hole slots 8 in the guides s on the frame A. The keyhole slots s are adapted to engage the adjustable stops r on the ends of the trip rods 7" which are threaded to receive the same. A suitable knurled hand-piece r is provided for the end of the rod. These trip rods are provided one for each side of the table, or one for each player.
The receptacle C is supported on a pair of cross-pieces or trusses E (see Figs. 1 and 2), through which the bolts F/ are arranged. The receptacle 0 is provided with a slot f in each side through which the balls escape when the valve is properly tilted. When the false bottom C is in its normal position, it is engaged by the downwardly projecting stops i. These stops i serve as bearings when the valve is operated. These stops 6 are provided to limit the downward movement of the valve or false bottom, the parts clearly appearing in Figs. 1, 2, and 4.
An individual receptacle D is provided for each player. Delivery chutes or troughs (1 lead from the delivery openings f of the general receptacle O to the players receptacles.
The troughs b and d are preferably formed of canvas or the like, as this material is economical and readily applied.
In the modified structure shown in Figs. 8 and 9, the ends of the trip rods engage cam-shaped slots in the lever S, which are carried by the bracket S on the frame of-the table, the operation of the device appearing in Fig. 8.
In operation, the pocketed balls are delivered into the central or general receptacle C. When a players turn is ended, if any of the balls have been pocketed, the player trips the valve by means of the trip rod for the individual receptacle designated for him, and the balls are delivered into that particular players receptacle; or, if desired, the valve may be locked open so that theballs pass immediately by way of the general'receptacle into the particular players receptacle as soon as pocketed.
The adjustable stops r may be adjusted to properly engage the key-hole slot, and operate the valve properly, and lock the same in its open position.
WVith the parts thus arranged, accurate fitting is not required. The structure is convenient to operate, economical to use, and durable in use.
Numerous structural variations will readily appear to those skilled in the art to which my invention relates.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is 1. The combination with a pool table of a centrally arranged general receptacle; troughs or chutes from the pockets of said table to said general receptacle; a valve for said general receptacle; a centrally arranged spring support therefor; stops for said valve on each sideof said receptacle, adapted to serve as bearings therefor; an upwardly projecting stem on said valve; trip rods connected to said stem; guide plates having keyhole slots therein adapted to receive said trip rods; adjustable stops on said trip rods; delivery openings in the side of said general receptacle; stops on each side of said receptacle for limiting the movement of said valve; individual receptacles; and suitable troughs from said general receptacle to said individual receptacles, for the purpose specified.
2. The combination with a pool table of a centrally arranged general receptacle; troughs or chutes from the pockets of said table to said general receptacle; a valve for said general receptacle; a centrally arran ed spring support therefor; stops for said va ve on each side of said receptacle, adapted to serve as bearings therefor; an upwardly proj ecting stem on said valve; trip rods connected to said stem; guide plates having key-hole slots therein, adapted to receive said trip rods; adjustable stops on said trip rods; delivery openings in the sides of said general receptacle; and suitable troughs from said general receptacle to said individual receptacles, for the purpose specified.
