SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 709,299, dated September 16, 1902.
Application filed May 17,1902. Serial No. 107,757. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED T. BROSI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Quincy in the county of Adams and State of Il1inois,have invented new and useful Improvements in Ear-Attachers for Buckets, 850., of which the My invention relates to devices for securing ears for attachinghandles or bails to metal buckets, tubs, or other receptacles, and has for its object to construct a simple and eiiicient device of this character which will be metal.
The simple and novel construction employed by me in carrying out my invention is fully described in this specification and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a partthereof, in which- Figure 1 isaperspective view of a fragment of a receptacle with my attacher mounted thereon. Fig. 1 is a perspective of a fragment of the receptacle, showing the slot. Fig. 1 is a rear elevation of my device attached to a receptacle. Fig. 2 shows the developed blank from which my double attacher is constructed. Fig. 3 shows the developed blank for making the single attacher. Fig. 4. is a modified form of double attacher. Fig. 5 is a perspective View of a fragment of a recep- 4 attached thereto.
Like numerals of reference designate like parts in the different views of the drawings.
The blank of my double attacher, as shown in Fig. 2, comprises two parallel body members 1 of uniform width, which members are connected by two rounded apertured ears 2, formed integral therewith and connected at their tips 3. Ears 1 are also formed integral with the body members 1. To secure this form of attacher to a vessel having a binding-wire 5 in the rim, a slit 6 is cut in the tub adjacent to the rim. The ears 2 are folded back in contact with each other, bringing the apertures into register, and then bent up at right angles to the plane of the body memher 1, asare also the ears 4. The double ear,
formed by the union of the two ears 3, and the'ears 4: are inserted in the slot 6.
The cars 4 are then turned down in contact with the vessel, and the free ends of the body members are coiled around to embrace the rim and binding-wire 5.
In the form illustratedin Fig. 3 body members 7 are employed, which each bear an apertured ear 8, provided with a lug 9. The apertures in the ears 8 are formed by cutting out ears 8, which are bent back, as shown in Fig. 5.
In Fig. 4 a double attacher is shown, in which ears 10 have apertures 11 therein, formed by the cutting out of ears 12, which are designed to engage the free ends 13 of body members 13. p
I do not wish to be limited to the precise shapes and forms set forth, as they may be varied within considerable limits without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A bail-attacher comprising two body members bearing apertured ears connected at their tips, the apertures in said ears being formed-by cutting out cars which are located to be turned over to secure the attacher to a receptacle, substantially as described.
2. A handle and bail attacher, comprising two body members having lugs and apertured ears, said ears being connected at their tips, said ears being constructed to engage a slit in a receptacle and extend at right angles to said body members, and said lugs being adapted to be bent over to engage the sides of said slit, substantially as described.
