SPECIFICATION forming part `of Letters Patent N o. 708,465, dated September 2, 1902. Application filed January 2,1902. Serial No. 88,110. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT COTTRELL, a citizenof the United States of America, residing in the city of Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket- Punches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in producing a novel :reservoir for ticket-punches, its most important features being that the reservoir-space adapted to retain the cuttings is entirely recessed Within the body of the die-holding member of the ticket-punch below the die and its discharge-orice provided with a cover, which instead of folding open or shut upon pivot or hinge is adapted to slide back in guides longitudinally to an open position and be prevented from being removed from the guides by a stop-pin upon the cover, which projects Within the recessed receptacle, thus guarding against the separation or loss of the cover, and which may be locked in a closed position by means of a latch. This construction produces a secure reservoir, enhances the appearance of the implement, cheapens the manufacture thereof,simplifes the operations to produce it, removes the possibility of loss of parts, and the cover when open is slid back out of the way, and thus preventsliability tocatch, bend, or break.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, Figure 1 is a vertical View of the ticket-punch embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an obverse exterior view showing cover in closed position. Fig. 3 is a vertical section showinginterior of receptacle and comprising parts with cover closed. Fig.` lis a transverse sectional view to show dovetail cover, stop-screw, exterior push-knob, and slot. Fig. 5 is.` avertical section showing interior of receptacle and comprising parts With cover open.

Without limiting myself to the precise details shown, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
In a ticket-punch the combination of a receptacle for the clippings recessed in the dieholding member, a cover upon the lower side thereof adapted to slide longitudinally in guides; astop-screw inserted in the said cover to serve as a push-knob to open and close the same; and a latch to fasten the said cover in a closed position, substa ntially as described.
