Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELWOOD HEADLEY, a citizen Of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Combination Savings- Banks, Of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toy savings banks and has relation more particularly to a bank of this character employing a delivery chute.

It is an object of this invention to provide a device of this kind wherein the coin after being inserted within the bank cannot be extracted by the use of a knife or other instrument.

Furthermore, an object of this invention is to produce a device of the character noted, which will possess advantages in points of simplicity, eiliciency and dnrability proving at the same time comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination Of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

In describing the invention in detail reference will b e had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which- Figure l, is a front elevation of a bank showing the invention applied. Fig. 2, is a cross `section of the S0 bank showing the chute in elevation. Fig. 3, is a detail view of the chute, said view being in section.

In the drawings l, denotes a bank which may be of any ordinary or preferred construction and 2, the chute,

which is provided with the slot Or channel 3, for the passage of coin into the bank. This chute has a headpiece 4, to prevent its falling within the bank l; To retain the chute in position pins 5, are passed through the openings 6, in the chute and contact with the inner wall of the bank as shown in Fig. 2, Of the drawings.

The channel 3, Of the chute is so constructed that when the coin is inserted therein at its mouth from the exterior of the bank it slides or passes down the channel or slot and when it has passed a sufficient distance into the bank it is turned to the right or left by the turning of the course or direction of the channel or slot in one of these directions. The coin then drops out of the slot into the bank proper and cannot be taken out except by the opening of the bank door which may be of any usual construction. By this arrangement a knife or other instrument cannot be inserted into the chute for the purpose of extracting the coin, by reason of the circuitous formation of the slot or channel* What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In combination, a receptacle having a slot, a chute insertible within the receptacle through the slot, said chute having one end enlarged, a portion of the enlarged end being adapted to bear against the exterior surface of the receptacle to limit the movement of the chute within the receptacle, and means passing through the enlarged end of the chute within the receptacle adapted to bear against the interior of the receptacle to limit the movement of the chute in an opposite direction.
