TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: l
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. FENN, of Wolcott, in the county of'Wayne','and State of New York, have invented a new Improvement iu Salt-Sitter; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part. of this specification, and represent, in
Figurel, a side View,
Figure 2 a top view, and in Figure 3 a vertical central section.
This inventionis designed for table-salts, or peppers, or similar articles, to finely sift the contents, the object being to prevent the stoppage or to force the material through the sitter, and consists in the arrangement of a. perforated plate in the top of a'. bottle or box, iso as to be turned partially around and returned, the inner surface being rougbeued so as to scrape or agitato the contents, and cause tho same to fall through the per' forations.
To enable others to construct my improvement, I will proceed to describe the same as illustrated in theA accompanying drawings. v
A is an ordinary caster-bottle, provided with a ring, B, upon Vits top. C, a perforated plate, held within the upper edge ofthe ring B, and so as to permit the turning of the plate from right to left. and returned, as denoted in fig. 3. The plate C is bestformcd by making the perforations from the outside in, which naturally leaves a burr upon the under side, which acts as a groter when moved so as to rub upon the contents of the bottle. A handle, D, is attached to the said plate by which to thus move it.
When any portion of the contents of the bottle is required for use, invert thcbottle and turn the plate back and forth, so that the contents, lying upon the plate, will be grated or agitated so as to pass out through the perforations iu the plate. For greater convenience in use, I place upon the neck of the bottle a spring, d, so as to bear against the handle D, or in other 'convenient position or form of spring, so that when the plate is turned, as to the position ip red, fig. 3; the spring will eause'its return.
This invention, though designed with special reference to table-caster bottles, is equally applicable to other uses. l
Having, therefore, thusfully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
- 1. Tire arrangement of the plate C, in combination with the bottle or case A, so as to operate in the manner described.
2. In combination with the above, I claim the arrangement of, a spring, so as to return the plate, substantially as herein 'set for-th.
' wMrA. PENN.
