flilge seam meat in it time Esters when amt mating part at figs same TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, B. WILCOX, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented-a new Improvement in Fruit Jars; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and, the letters of reference marked thereon, to bea full, clear, and
exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, iii-- Figure 1, a side view.
Figure 2, a vertical central section on line 90 x; and in Figure 3, a top view of the neck-ring. I
This invention relates to an improvement in the manner of securing the .cover to the jar, and consists in-a divided ring, which passes around the neck of the beneath a shoulder, and a yoke which, attached to the two ends of the said divided ring, locks the ring together, and-when turned up over the top of the jar securely holds the top thereon. i v
To enable others to construct and'use my improvement, I will proceed to describe the same, as illustrated in the'accompanying drawings. I
A is the and B the cover. The said jar is formed witha shoulder a around its neck, and beneath the shoulder two parts of a-dividedring, G, is placed, and each part of the said divided ring forined with a projecting lug, d. D is a yoke, the two ends of which are perforated, so as to permit the two lugs'on the ring Q to pass therethrough, as denoted in fig. 1-. I prefer to form the cover of the jar with a knob or raised point in the centre.
The operation for securing the cover is as follows: Place the two parts of the ring C around the neck of the jar, insert the lugs upon one side through one end 05 the yoke, as seen in fig. 1, then spring out the other end of the yoke, as denoted in red, fig. 1, so as to pass on to the other lug; this is done while the yoke is nearly in the position denoted in red, fig. 2; then place the cover on to thejar with suitable packing between; then turn the yoke up, as denoted in fig. 1,-and as seen .in black, fig. 2, the yoke being of such length as to press hard down on the cover. To remove the cover, turn the yoke from or the cover, as denoted in red, fig. 3, then the cover may be removed in the'usual manner. In some kinds of jars I find it facilitates the opening by forming a slight air-passage throughthe cover. This'I form at the central point, as seen in fig, 2, and over the opening place a small piece of India rubber or other material, so that the yoke may rest thereon, and securely close the opening. I I I Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V 4 The yoke D and divided ring 0, in combination with ajar, A, and cover, B, when constructed and arranged so as to operate substantially in the manner herein set forth.
