Be it known that I, SAMUEL TREINIS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Punching-Bag Platform, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in platforms for suspending punching-bags; and an object is to provide a device of this character that shall be rigid and strong when supported from a wall or the like and so arranged that it may be readily adjusted to take up possible wear in the joints or connections and adapted to fold compactly for storage or transportation.

I will describe a punching-bag platform embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of a punchingbag platform embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side viewthereof. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of a bracket member employed, and Fig. 4 is a sectional view of an extension-brace employed.

Referring to the drawings,- ldesignates the platform, consisting of any suitable material, and 2 is a supporting-plate designed to be secured to a wall or the like.

On the upper side of the platform 1 is a metal frame 3, having in its rear cross-bar 4t sockets for receiving the forward ends of a bracket-arm 5. The said forward ends of the bracket-arms are tapered rearwardly and the side walls are inclined downward and outward to engage with the correspondinglyshaped walls of the sockets. The upper end portions of the bracket-arm 5 are removably engaged in sockets 6, formed on a plate 7, attached to the supporting-plate 2. The sockets 6 have inclined walls and the sides of the upper portions of the arm 5 are correspondingly shaped, and on these ends are inwardlyextended lugs 8, which engage on the upper sides of the socket members, as shown. An extension-brace consists of two members 9 10, adjustably held together by means of a set-bolt11, provided with a nut 12. The overlapping portions of these members 9 and 10 are corrugated, as shown inFig. 4, so that the corrugations of one member will engage with the corrugations of the other member, preventing any possible slipping, and to provide for the lengthening or shortening of the brace the member 10, as heresh'own, is provided with a slot 13, through which the bolt 11 passes. The lower member 10 has pivotal connection 14 with the frame 3, and the up per member 9 has pivotal connection with lugs 15, secured to the supporting-plate 2.

The hanger for the punching-bag 16 consists of a rigid or frame-like member 17, secured to the under side of the platform, and a flexible member 18. By this arrangement the bag may have only sufficient swing to strike against the platform-in other words, by the short flexible member 18.the bag is prevented from passing over the upper side of the platform.

The assembling of the parts will be readily understood from the drawings. Should the connections between the frame and the bracket-arm become loose or worn, the brace may be readily adjusted to move the platform and holder in horizontal position.

It will be understood that the plate 2 is not an essential feature, as in practice, at least in most instances, the parts shown as connected thereto will be secured directly to a wall, and therefore the plate and a wall are to be considered equivalents.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A punching-bag platform, a bracket hav ing removable connection therewith, a longitudinally-adjustable brace consisting of two sections having overlapped ends, the overlapping portions being corrugated on their engaging surfaces, and means for securing the sections as adjusted, substantially as tended from the other section through said slot, substantially as specified.

3. A punching-bag platform, a metal frame secured thereon and provided with sockets, a supporting-plate, a socketed member on said supporting-plate, a bracket-arm adapted to engage in said sockets of the plate and platform, and a brace consisting of two members, adjustable one upon the other, one member having pivotal connection with the platform and the other having pivotal connection with the supporting-plate, substantially as specified.

4. A punching-bag platform, a supportingplate, socket members on the supporting-plate, socket members on the platform, a bracketarm having its upper end adapted to engage in the socket members of the plate, lugs on said upper ends for engaging on the upper sides of the socket members, the lower end of said arm being adapted for removable engagement with the sockets on the platform, and an adjustable brace connection between the platform and supporting-plate, substantially as specified.
