To an whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES COLLIER SHAW, WILLIE JAMES SHAW, and ROBERT ERVIN SHAW, citizens of the United States, residing at Bessemer, in the county of J efierson and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rubber Roof- Paint; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our composition consists of the followingingredients, combined in the proportions stated, viz: based on a barrel of fifty gallons, coaltar, thirty-six gallons; creosote, eight gallons; linseed-oil, two gallons; asphaltum varnish, two gallons; fine salt, ten pounds. These ingredients are stirred until thoroughly mixed.
In the use of the above-specified rubber roof-paint it has been found that it not only is waterproof, but that it preserves the metal to which it is applied, and thus prolongs the life of the same to an appreciable extent. Further, it has been demonstrated that this paint does not crack or peel OE and is therefore adapted for use in all climates.
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The herein-described paint, consisting of coal-tar, creosote, linseed-oil, asphaltum varnish, and fine salt, substantially as described and for the purpose specified. A
2. The herein-described paint, consistin g of, coal-tar thirty-six gallons, creosote eight gallons, linseed-oil two gallons, asphaltum varnish two gallons, and fine salt ten pounds, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
