TO ALL WHOM IT MAY C'ONCERN: i l
Be it known that I, CHARLES P. MOYER, of Womelsdorf, imtllc county of Berks, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Device for Administering Balls to Horses; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of tliis specifica-tion, A represents a shallow metallic cup with a double rim. Between theI rims of this cup is placed and secured thc rim oi' a rubber cup, E. ne rubber cup is made from two to three inches deep, and tapering and more pliable toward its bottom. That halfl` of the rubber cup toward the cup A is madeyof `sufficient thickness as not to yield readily, while'the other half is pliable, so that it can be drawn into the first half, as seen in the figure, leaving or forminga recess, as seen from a: to x x'. The cup A has secured to it a tube, B, upon which is secured'a uietallic shieldfC. D represents a plunger, which passes through the tube B, and which has its inner end made fast tothe bottom ofthe rubber cup E. By the use of the plunger the pliable half or the bottom of' the cup E may be drawn into the other half, or thrown out, as may be desirable, this latter position being representedin red line in the figure.
'When a ball is to be administered to a horse, the p lunger is drawn outward, as seen, drawing the pliable bottom of cup E within its other half. The ball is then placed in the cup or'recess, as seen at z and x z'. The instrument is then placed withinthe horses mouth, so' that the shield will rest between the two jaws, keeping them apart. When the instrument hasn been properly adjusted, the operator forces the plunger inward, and thus discharges the ball into the throat or gullet ol' the horse. Balls may thus be administered to horses with great ease, and without danger to the operator, i
Having thus fully described my invention, what- I claim as new, and desire to secure hy Letters Patent, is-
l. The India-rubber or pliable cup E, lthe cu'p A, andthe plunger D, used substantially as and for thel pur- `pose s'et forth.
2. The shield C, in combination with the tube B and plunger D, when used as and for the purpose speciiied. Intestimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set m'y hand this 3d day of August, 1867.
CHARLES P. MOYER.
