IMPROVEMENT IN TUBULAR PLUNGERS FOR CANDLE-MOLDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59.460, dated November 6, 1866 antedated July 18, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY RYDER,-0f New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Tubular Plungers of Candle-Molds; and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawing, which is a longitudinal section of such plunger as provided with my invention.
Such invention consists in constructing the foot of the tip-mold or head of the plunger with an elastic expansive passage or mouth for reception of the wicking. This mouth I usually make of vulcanized caoutchouc.
One object of it is to prevent the parafflne, or other material of which the candle is composed, when in a liquid state, from bursting through the mouth,
Another object of it is to enable the wicking to be drawn through the mouth without being clogged therein by a knot or enlargement in the wicking.
In the drawing, A denotes theplunger, of which a is the head, and b the shank, the latter being a tube. The head has a matrix, 0, in it, for giving form to whatis termed the tip 'of a candle. At the lower part of such matrix,
