S. A. KRONER, OF NEW BRITAIN, PENNSYLVANIA. Letters Patent No. 70,578, dated November 5, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN GUL'IIVA'I'ORS.
"digs dgaule were in it that new new amt mating part at the same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: 7
Be it known that I, S. A. KRONER, of New Britain, State of Pennsylvania, havo'inventod certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my cultivator.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.-
A represents the main beam of my cultivator, to which the handles B are attached. To the side of this beam A are pivoted the folding sides G and G, by means of the stationary plate D and slide E. These folding sides 0 and C are pivoted together by means of the plates F, one being placed above and the othcrbelow the sides, as seen in fig. 2, in such a manner that they can be folded up or extended out to any required distance. E represents two metal plates, which secure the ends of the shorter folding sides C together. In openingior closing'these sides, these plates E slide along the main beam A,,and by passing tho pin G through both the plates and the beam, the sides are held firmly and securely in their places. The handles 13 are pivoted to the main beam A, about thecentre, so that by loosening the screw in the trestle H, (as seen in fig. 1,) by which it is supported, the handle can be shifted entirely around, and attached to the other end of the beam A. I repre sents the clevis, towhlch the single-treejs attached. This clevis is also pivoted to the beam A, so that it can be shifted around like the handles B. Ii represent movable ploughshares, which can be transferred from one side to the'o ther. These shares have rods projecting from their tops, which are passed through the sides 0 and C, and secured, as seen by dotted lines in fig. 2. L is a knife, which is secured to the beam A, for the purpose T of cutting the roots that may be in the ground. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. I claim the trestle H, in combination with the handles B and beam A, for the purpose of shifting the handles, in the manner and for the purpose specified. I
2. I claim the movable sides C and O, in combination with the plates D and F, the slide E, and pin G, in
the manner and for the purpose set forth.
3. I claim the arrangement of the shares K, in combination with the movable sides C and C, plates F and I D, slide E, trestle H, and clevis I, in the manner and for the/purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above as my own, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
a S. A. KRONER.
