WOOLSEY & HUBBELL.
Sled. v No.70 491, 4 v Patented Nov, 5, 1867.
NFETERS, FNOTO-U'IIHOGRAEHERJ WASHINGTON D. C.
e 51m @atmt essae A.. T. WOOLSEY AND A. F. HUBBELL, ()F SANDUSKY,'0H 10. Letters Patent 1%. 70,491, dated November 5, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN SLBDS.
TO ALL WHOM IT'MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, A. T. WOOLSEY and A. F. HUBBELL, of Sandusky, in the county of Erie, and State i of Ohio, have invented certain'new and useful Improvements in Sleds; and we do hereby declare that the fol lowing is a full and complete description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making,
a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view.
Figure 2 is a top view.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the views. Y I
Our improvement consists in making the runner and side rail of a sled of one entire piece, which can he applied to either cutters. sleighs, or hand sleds.
In the drawing, A represents the runner, to which is secured the legs B that support the bottom or body, a, of the sled, the bottom resting on the beams C, which extend from side to side, and to which the legs are secured.- D D are the guards, secured to the ends of the beams O, and, extending. forward, are secured to the side rails, as shown in fig. 1. I I
In the ordinary sleds, the runner and side rails A are made of distinct pieces, and jointed at the point 1:, thus requiring a great deal of labor and expense in making them, and the joint is liable to become loose and break. But when made, as described, of one entire piece, being curved, as shown, all the expense and labor of making the joint is dispensed with, the guards on .each side acting as a brace to aid in supporting the said rail.
By this improvement the sled is more durable and simple in construction.
What we claim as our improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' r i The construction of a runner, A, and side rail, A, of one entire piece, in the manner as and for the purpose set forth.
A. T. WOOLSEY,
A. F. HUBBELL.
