CARL E. HUL'IQUIST, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
CUFFMHOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704,644, dated July 15, 1902.
Application filed August 13,1901. Serial No. 71,921. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL E. I-IULTQUIST, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented cern tain new and useful Improvements in Cuff- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The objects of my invention are, first, the production of a cuff -holder that will not abrade or wear the placket-facing of a shirtsleeve, and, second, that will not become accidentally detached from a cuff with which it has been connected; and it consists of certain new and useful features of construction and combinations of parts especially devised to those ends, all as hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is an isometrical view ofy a cuff-holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a view showing the same operatively connecting a cuff with the placketsfacing of a shirt-sleeve. Fig. 3 is a section at the line 3 3 in Fig. 2 of parts there shown. Fig. 4 is also a section at the line 4 4 in Fig. 2 of parts there shown.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
A is the connecting-bar of the cuff-holder, which terminates at one end in a pintle A', integral therewith, and is provided at its remaining end with a T-shaped stud A2, projecting transversely therefrom, and a prolonged end shank A3, substantially parallel with the head of the T-shaped stud A2.
B B are a pair of jaws pivoted together' by means of the pintle A on the connecting-bar A, passing through openings B2 las in the ears Bl B5 thereon.
C is a roller, preferably of rubber or other yielding substance, mounted on a pintle C on the inside of the jaw B', supported by the ears C2, projecting therefrom.
D represents any suitable spring devices normally holding the jaw B into engagement with the roller C, mounted on the inside of the jaw B. Obviously a coiled spring or any other suitable form of spring might be substituted for the bent springs D, here shown as being integral with the jaws iB B', without departing'from the spirit and scope of my invention. I therefore do not intend by describing the springs D to thereby limit myself to a spring or springs of Aany particular form or construction.
The jaw B may have transverse serrations B6 therein, if desired.
Fig. 2 shows the jaws B B' of the cuff-holder operatively applied to the placket-facing E of the shirt-sleeve E'. By grasping the upper end of the cuff E2 between the thumb and fingers of the hand such cuff and its holder may be slid up or down, as desired, the roller C permitting the jaws B B to travel back and forth along the facing E and lengthwise thereof without abrading or wearing the same to an injurious extent. The T-shaped stud A2 and shank A3 render it practically impossible for the connecting-bar A to become accidentally detached from the buttonholes E2 E4' in the cuff E2. If, however, either the top A4 of the T-shaped stud A2 or the shank As were wanting, the cuff would be liable to become detached from the holder, or the buttonholes E3 E4 therein would slip over the point now occupied by the shank A3 and permit the connecting-bar A to slide up and down therethrough.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a cuff-holder, incombination, a pair of jaws pivoted together' by a pintle, a roller, of rubber or other yielding material, mounted on the inside of one of said jaws and at right angles to said pintle, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARL E. IIULTQU IST.
