MAXIMILTAN GALLEY, OF HANOVER, GERMANY.
FACE-PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704,311, dated July 8, 1902.
Application filed November 28,1900. Serial No. 37,968. (No model) To t2/Z whom t muy concern:
Be it known that I, MAXIMILIAN GALLEY, a subject of the German Emperor, and a residentof Hanover,Germany, haveinvented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Face- Protectors for Use During the'Operation of Hair-Cutting,of which the followingis a specification.
The object of my present invention is to provide a simple but efficient device for pro- K tecting a persons face while having his hair cut or dressed, so as to prevent the cut hair, tbc., from dropping on his face.
The invention consists of the novel combi? nation of parts fully described and claimed hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated my invention with various means for holding the protector on a persons face.
Figure lis a side elevation showing my protector in its simplest form. Fig. 2 is a like elevation showing the protector with a mustache guard or band and attached tothe ears of the wearer. Fig. 3 shows said protector with a chin-band as well as ear-bands. Fig. al. shows the protector provided with a tray for collecting debris, and Fig. 5 is a general view of the device with the screen'in section.
Referring to the drawings, a represents a curved screen made of transparent or translucent material, such as Celluloid, gelatin paper, waxed linen, glass, dzc., or of opaque material, such as sheet metal, paper, cardboard, tbc. The upper edge of said screen is adapted to snugly lit around a pcrsons forehead for the purpose of efficiently preventing anything 'from passing between the screen and the forehead upon the face of the wearer. The screen or protector extends from the forehead down suilciently far to entirely cover and protect the nose and mouth as well as the eyes, reaching nearly or quite to the point of the chin. Attached to the upper edge of the screen c is a band b, which may be turned around the wearer-s head and tied at the rear thereof, as shown in Fig. l, or said band may have elastic ends b, Figs. 2 and 3, attached to the said side edges of the screen d and adapted to be fitted around the ears of the wearer for the purpose of holding the device in position.
In order to hold the screen a away from the wearers face, the'inner side thereof may be provided with a cushion or pad c, adapted to rest on the wearers nose, or to the band h maybe attached two side hands d d, adapted to be turned and tied under the Wearers chin, Fig. l. The side edges of the screen a may be also attached to a closed elastic band c, adapted to t around the wearer-s chin.
The device may be further provided with Aan inner band g, adapted to fit over and hold the wearers mustache, to fixv or set the ends thereof.
In order to prevent the face-screen from slipping down, the same may be attached to the Wearers forehead by means of any suitable plaster iixed to the upper edge of the screen.
The device may further be provided with an open channel or tray h at its lower edge I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A face-protector comprising a suitable curved imperforate screen adapted to lit around the wearers forehead and cover his face to a point below the mouth, means for holding the screen in place, and means for holding the screen away from the wearers face, substantially7 as set forth.
2. A face-protector comprising a suitablycurved imperforate screen adapted to fit around the wearer-s forehead and cover his face to a point below the mouth, a band attached to the upper edge of the screen and adapted to fit upon some part of the wearers head to secure said screen in place, and means for holding lthe screen awayfrom the wearers face, substantially as set forth.
A face-protector comprising a suitablycurved imperforate screen adapted to t around the wearers forehead and cover his IOO face to a point below the mouth, a baud attached to the upper edge of the screen and adapted to fit upon some part of the wearers head to hold said screen thereto, and a suitable pad on the inner side of the screen and adapted to rest on the wearers nose, substantially as set forth.
4. A face-protector comprising a suitablycurved screen adapted to fit around the wearers forehead and cover his face to a point below the mouth, a band attached to the upper part of the screen and adapted to fit upon some part of the wearers head to hold the screen thereto, and an elastic band connected to the sides of said screen and adapted to fit under the wearers chin, substantially as set forth.
5. The combination with a suitably-curved screen adapted to lit around the wearers forehead and cover his face, and means for holding said screen in position on the wearer, of an inner band attached to the sides of the screen and adapted to fit over the wearers mustache, substantially as set forth.
(j. A face-protector comprising a suitablycurved screen adapted to fit around the wearers forehead and cover his face, means for holding the screen in position on the wearer,
and an open tray projecting from the lower edge of the screen, into which the scurf, cut hair and the like may fall, substantially as set forth.
7. A face-protector comprisingr a suitablycurved screen adapted to flt around the wearers forehead and cover his face to a point below the mouth, means for holding the screen in position on the wearer, a pad attached to the screen and adapted to sit on the Wearers nose, an inner band attached to the side of the screen and adapted to fit over the Wearers mustache, and an open tray projecting from the lower edge of the screen to receive chippings and other debris, substantially as set forth.
8. A face-protector comprising a suitablycurved screen of transparent material, adapted to fit over the wearers forehead and cover his face to a point below the mouth, and means for attaching said screen to the head, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
MAX. GALLEY.
