This invention relates to improvements'in eye shields preferably of an opaque structure adapted to removably hold a pad impregnated or saturated with a medicament or 5 lotion, to be placed over the eyes and secured in'position for the purpose of treatment of the eyes to soothe and rest them, and for the purpose of other treatment of the eyes.

A further object is to provide in a device 10 of this character improved means for removably holding a pa d in position and for securing and holding the shield to the head of the user.

To the attainment of these ends and the ac- 15 complishment of other new and useful objects as will appeaiythe inventionconsists in the features of novelty in substantially the construction, combination and arrangement of theseveral parts hereinafter more fully '20 described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing illustrating this invention, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shield of v this character constructed in accordance with the principles of this invention, showing parts thereof partially separated.

The eye shield consists essentially of a body portion 10 constructedof any-suitable flexe ible material preferably opaque, and the marginal edge 11 thereof is preferably formed 497 by folding over the material upon itself so as r to produce a slightly raised portion and thereby form shallow cup shaped portions spaced from each other and on opposite sides of a reduced portion 12. This reduced portion is shaped so as to receive the bridge of the nose when the shield is placed across the eyes of the user.

The body portion 10 may be of any desired configuration and is of any desired size, and is also preferably formed of waterproof material. Perforated, rim like or flexible frame members-l3 are secured to the body portion and these members are preferably formed of flexible waterproof material connected to: gether by a connecting portionl4, and this connecting portion 14 is adaptedto be secured to the body portion 10 intermediate the cup shaped portions of the body. The frame members 13 are also preferably constructed of waterproof material and are preferably of a size and configuration to conform to the contour of the body portion, and when rest ing thereagainst are also of a size that the outer peripheral edges of the frame members will preferably stand within the peripheral edges ofthe body member. 7 Connected to the frame members 13 pref-- erably points opposite to the points at which they are secured to the body portion, are flexible members '15, preferably in the form'ofribbons orv tapes, and each of these members 15 passes through a slot 16 in the bodyportion 10 preferably adjacent the outer extremities thereof. These slots] may be i formed in any suitable manner and when the 7.5;

flexible members 15 are drawn taut, the frame members 13 will stand in close proximity to the proximate face of the body member 10.

The numeral 17 designates pads formed of any suitable material such as absorbent cotton or the like, and these pads are prefer ably, of a configuration to conform to the contour of the body portion and the frame members 13. One of these pads is provided for each of the 'cupshaped portions of the body and is of a sizeand configuration to fit'ther'ein and beneath the frame members13, so that when the pads are in position and the flexible mem-' ber 15 drawn taut the pads will be held against displacement by means of the frame members, 991

and yet they may be removed when desired by raising the frame members. I

In use, the pads 17 are saturated with a medicament or lotion and then placed in the cup shaped portions of the body, after which 951/ the frame members 13 are drawn thereover. The shield may then be applied to the eyes of the user by placing the pad portion in contact with the eyelids the opening in the frame members being suificiently large forjthis purpose. The shield may then be secured to the head of the user by passing the flexible members 15 around the head and tied or other- Wise fastened together.

With this improved construction it will be manifest that by reason of the waterproof nature of the body portion 10 and the frame members 13, as Well as the cup shaped portion of the body, the liquid will be prevented from running out of the shield and at the same time the shield will form a protection and will prevent the liquid from passing therethrough.

While the preferred form of the invention has been herein shown and described, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, within the scope of the claims, without departing from the spirit of this invention.

. .l/Vhat is claimed as new is 1. A flexible eye shield having a reduced portion intermediate its ends to-fit over the bridge of the nose, perforated, rim like flexible frame members hingedly connected to said shield adjacent and on each side of the longitudinal center of the shield and adapted to. extend over the eye covering portions of the shield, to form therewith holders for removable pads, and means for securing together the free portions of the said frames and the said shield.

2. A flexible eye shieldhaving a reduced portionintermediate its ends to fit over the bridge of the nose, perforated, rim like flexible frame members hingedly connected to said I shield adjacent and on each side of the longi- '65 movable pads, and means for securing .to-

tudinal center of the shield and adapted to extend over the eye covering portions of the shield, to form therewith holders for rem-ovble frame members hingedly connected to the free portions of the said frames and the said shield, saidshield being formed of opaque waterproof material.

3. A flexible eye shield having a reduced portion intermediate its ends to flt over the bridge of the nose, perforated, rim like flexible frame members hingedly connected to said shield adjacent and on each side of the. longitudinal center of the shield and adapted to extend over the eye covering portions of the shield, to form therewith holders for removable pads, and means for securing together the free portions of the said frames and the said shield, said frame members being formed of waterproof material.

5. A flexible eye shield having a perforated, rim like flexible frame member connected to the shield, a portion of the frame member being free from the shield to permit of the insertion of a pad therebetween and removal therefrom, and a flexible member secured by one end to said free portion of the frame member, there being'an opening through the shield through which said flexible member passes for securing said portion of the frame member and shield together and for holding the inserted pad against displacement, said flexible member-also serving as a means for securing the shield to the head of the wearer, said pad contacting directly with the eye through the frame member.

6. An opaque flexible eye shield, perforated, rim like flexible frame members co-operating with the shield to form a space therebetween for the reception of a pad, and flexible elements secured to the framemember and passing through openingsin the shieldvmember for securing the two together to hold said pad in position, said flexible elements also serving as a means for securing the shield in position for use, saidpads contacting directly with the eyes through the frame members.

7 A flexible eye shield, the marginal edge of which is raised to form a shallow pocket forthe'reception of a removable pad, a perforated, rim likev flexible frame extending over the pocket for holding the pad against displacement, and flexible members connected with the frame and passing through openings in the shield for securing the frame and shield together, said flexible members also serving as a means for securing the shield in position for use.

8. A flexibleeye shield, the marginal edge of which is raised to form a shallow pocket for the reception of a removable pad, a per forated, rim like flexible frame extending over the pocket for holding the pad against displacement, and flexible members connected with the frame and passing through openings in the shield for securing the frame and. shield together, said flexible members also serving as a means for securing the shield in position for use, said shield being opaque, and said shield and frame being formed of waterproof material. 1
