JIYVQIZZUFI- flit/79552.5
UNITED STATES ATENT FFICEr JOHN F. CORDES, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TRANSFER-FRAME FOR LETTER-FILES AND BINDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 703,767, dated J uly- 1, 1902.
Application filed February 2, 1901. Serial No. 45,750. (No model.)
To all whom itmtty concern: 7
Be it known that I, JOHN F. CoRDEs,a citizen of the United States, residing atChicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful 'Improvements in Transferrames. for Letter Files, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates vto a transfer arch frame or carrier to be used with letter-files and 1oose 1e'af binders, order-blanksand re ceipt-holders of the class known aspostbinders; and the "object of myinvention is to provide an improved simple devicewhicli may be adjusted to various binders having posts at different distances apart and which when not in use may be'folded up into acornpact form. I
My invention consists in two base-bars hinged together, each having an arch-post swiveled to the swinging ends thereof, the arched'ends of the said posts being provided with cups or suitable end fittingsto connect with the upper ends of the impaling-postsof the binder, the arch-posts being thus adapted to 'move toward and from each other and the arched upper ends thereof to be held away from the hinged bars and-parallel to each other, when in use, and to be turned backwardly to overhang the said hinged bars when the frameis folded up into a compact form,
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved transfer-frame applied to a post-binder. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the transfer-frame upon an enlarged scale, showingby dot-lines the frame in a second position; and Fig. 3, a perspective view of the transfer-framefolded up.
The base-bars A Aare hinged together at a and their opposite ends are bored and receive arch-postsBB, pivoted thereto at b, the said arch-posts beingthus adapted to beswung either away from the base-bars in. parallel lines as shownin Figs. land 2, to engage with the binder-posts D D of a pos't-binderE, and also to bemoved'toward'and away from each otherin parallel linesas shown in Fig. 2, thus to adapt the transfer-frame to various binders having posts at unequal distances from each other,-the dot-lines inFig. 2 representing the position of the frame when adapted to posts that are nearer to each other than that shown'by fulllines in the same figure.
The pivotal connectionof the'arch-posts tothe swinging ends'of the hinged base-bars will allow the arches of the arch-posts to be turnedback over the said base-bars when the latter are folded together, as shown in Fig. 3, thus allowing the frame to be doubled up into acompact form and hung or put up away when'not inuse. The transfer-frame may Tbelthus usedfor any'number of binders of access or to remove a certain letter from the post-binderor to remove allofthe letters or sheets therefrom and serve as a carrier to hold the said sheets and enable them to be transferred to a permanent binder when required.
The arch-posts may besecured into the ends of the hinged base bars andfremoved therefrom when the device is to be packed away; but this construction is considered defective.
In largebindersthree or four posts are sometimes employed, and it is evident that a double set of hinged base-bars for each ad ditional post required may be employed.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination with a jointed base, of posts adjustably secured thereon and-socketed endson said posts.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with hinged base bars of-a. post adjustably secur'edon' each, curved ends on said posts and means "for engaging thesame on the posts of a'loose leaf'binder;
The combination with a plurality of curved posts, of means on each for engaging the posts of a loose-leaf binder and jointed each post being curved downwardly and probase-sections adjnstably engaging said posts vided at its extremity with a socket adapted and adapted to permit the same to be adto engage over a post of a loose-leaf binder.
I justed to varying distances apart. JOHN F. OORDES.
5 4. A transfer-frame comprising a plurality of articulated base-bars, posts adj ustably and rotatably supported on each, the free end of Witnesses:
WM. l-I. ROWE, G. G. HASTINGS.
