UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE BOLZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WARDROBE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 703,173, dated June 24, 1902.
Application filed September 23, 1901. Serial No. 76,198. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE BOLZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in IVardrobes, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide improved means for suspending clothes in wardrobes, cnpboards,and similar places and the invention consists in placing a horizontal rod or bar in the top of a cupboard, wardrobe, or similar receptacle in such manner that said rod or bar may be moved outwardly for the purpose of suspending clothes therefrom and then moved backwardly into the rearmost part of the wardrobe, cupboard, or other receptacle.
In the drawings forming part of this specification, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, Figure 1 is a perspective front View of an ordinary wardrobe provided with my improvement, the doors being open and the top broken away; Fig. 2, an inverted sectional plan view looking into the top of the wardrobe; Fig. 3, a longitudinally-vertical section of the top portion of the wardrobe; Fig. 4, a transverse vertical section showing one of the doors, and Fig. 5 represents sectional details of the construction.
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at 7 an ordinary wardrobe or cupboard provided with the usual doors 8, and secured to the opposite sides of the wardrobe or cupboard, near the top thereof, are transverse plates 9, having central longitudinal slots 10, in which is placed a rod or bar 11. Connected with the rod or bar 11, adjacent to the opposite ends thereof, by means of bands 12 are handle-rods 13, provided at their front ends with knobs or heads 14, and the rods 13 pass through eyebolts 15, screwed .into the top 16 of the wardrobeor cupboard, near the front edge thereof. I also suspend in practice from the rod or bar 11 ordinary clothes-suspending devices 17, which are provided with hooks 18, and whenever it is desired to suspend a coat or other garment from the rod or bar 11 the handle rods 13 are grasped by the knobs 14 and pulled forwardly. This operation pulls the rod or bar -11 forwardly, and the garments may be suspended therefrom, as will be readily understood, after which the rod or bar 11 may be moved backwardly into the rear portion of the wardrobe or cupboard by means of the handlerods 13.
It will be apparent that this apparatus may be placed in any sort of a receptacle suitable for hanging clothes or other articles therein, and by means thereof such clothes or other articles may be conveniently suspended in such receptacle and also be quickly and easily removed therefrom whenever desired.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described .means for hanging garments in a wardrobe consisting of slotted supports adapted to be secured to the opposite sides of the wardrobe near the top thereof, a bar mounted in said supports, hangers adapted to be secured to the top of said wardrobe near the front thereof, and provided with eyes or openings and rods connected with said bar and passing forwardly through said eyes or openings, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 19th day of September, 1901.
GEORGE BOLZ;
WVitnesses:
F. A. STEWART, R. PEARLMAN.
