Description

G. BILLBURG.
TRUNK.
APPLIOATION FILED DEC. 1, 1909.
Patented Nov. 22, 1910.
/////I III III a c s R s n P w R R n N s H CHARLES BILLBURG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TRUNK.
Application filed December 1, 3.909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES BILLBURG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trunks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in trunks and has for its object the production of a trunk and supports therein so arranged as to facilitate the exhibition and transportation of wearing apparel such as coats, etc.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a vertical section of a trunk embodying my invention, and Fig. 2, a section 011 line w00 of Fig. 1.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises a body portion 1 and a cover portion 2 adapted to be slidably separated from each other as shown in Fig. 1. Cover portion 2 is provided with rollers 3 to facilitate its separation from body 1. The body portion 1 and cover portion 2 are rectangular in shape at their upper ends where they are each provided with corresponding narrowed portions 4 and 5 as shown. In these narrowed portions are secured supporting rods 6 preferably by means of inverted plates 7 at their inner end and by hanger rods 8 at their outer end. A rod extension 9 is hinged to the outer end of each of the rods 6 and the outer end of each of the extensions 9 are connected by means of a link 10 as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. A sleeve 11 slidable upon extensions 9 is adapted to be slipped over said link connection and hold said rods and extensions in alinement as shown in Fig. 1. An inner garment rack support 12 carrying a roller 13 is provided for each of the rods 6 and an outer garment rack sup port 14 carrying angularly disposed rollers 15 and telescoping portion 11 is slidably mounted on rods 6 and extensions 9. Handles 16 are provided for easy manipulation of the garment rack supports and suitable garment racks 17 are suspended on said support at difierent elevations as shown.
In use garments such as coats and the like Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 22, 1910.
Serial No. 530,758.
are suspended on racks 17 in positions adapted to be readily exhibited to prospective purchasers. When it is desired to pack said garments for transportation or other purposes, the garments are pushed back into their respective portions of the trunk to gether with the portions of the garment rack supports 12 and 14, said portions telescoping together and rollers 16 passing hangers 8, to permit this. By placing the garment racks 17 at different elevations piling up of said racks is prevented and thus space saved in the packing. Then the tube 11 is slipped away from over link 10 and the two portions of the trunk brought together, the rod extensions 9 folding inwardly and substantially parallel to each other, a result which is facilitated by the link 10. The tube portions of the trunk may then be readily secured together when the same is ready for transportation. WVhen it is desired to reexhibit the garment all that is necessary is to separate the two trunk compartments, place the tube 11 in position to hold the rods in alinement, and draw out the garment rack supports by means of handles 16.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of my invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set forth but wish to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A trunk comprising slidable separable body and cover portions; supporting rods secured to each of said portions; rod extensions hinged to said supporting rods and having their outer ends linked together; a tube adapted to slide over said extensions at their linked ends; and a garment rack support slidable on said rods and extensions, substantially as described.
2. A trunk comprising slidable separable body and cover portions; supporting rods secured at their inner ends to each of said portions and provided with hanger supports at their outer ends; rod extensions hinged to said supporting rods and having their outer ends linked together; a tube adapted to slide over said extensions at their linked connection; garment rack supports on each of said supporting rods and extensions, each In testimony whereof I have signed my of the said garment rack supports comprisname to this specification in the presence of garment rack supports, substantially as de- 5 ing an inner member carrying a roller riding I two subscribing Witnesses.
scribed.
on said supportin rod, and an outer member carrying a pair of angularly disposed CHARLES BILLBURG' rollers adapted to ride on the extension and adjacent rod support and telescoping said 10 inner member; and garment racks on said Witnesses:
HELEN F. LILLIS,' JOSHUA R. H. POTTS.
