JAMES A. MITCHELL, OF HILLSDALE, MICHIGAN.
FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersrIrPatent No. l702,230, dated June 10, 1902.
` Application filed April 10,1902. Serial No. 102,208. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: p
Be it known that I, J AMES A. MITCHELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at I-Iillsdale, in the county of Hillsdale and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plastic Fence-Posts and I do declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to improvements in fence-posts, and more particularly to those formed of plastic material; and it consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts of which it is composed, all aswill be hereinafter more fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention, in which the figure represents a vertical sectional view of my improved plastic fencepost.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawing, Adesignates a plastic fence-post'designed to be used for supporting the linewires of wire fences, and B indicates a brace or support which is embedded within the plastic post, the same being molded therein at the time the post is cast. This support or brace is of peculiar construction, the same being formed of a single piece, the upper portion ot of which is twisted, leaving openings or eyes b for the passage of the tie-wires c, that extend from one side of the post to the other and project therefrom` on either side, as at d. From the lower portion of this twisted part a are downwardly-projecting supports or Iwires c e, and secured to these supports are tie-wires ff, which are twisted around the same, as at g g, and the ends 7L h thereof project out of and on either side of the post.
These tie-wires are designed to be u used on the line-wires of the ordinary wire fences and the ends are twisted around the same, thereby securing the line-wires to the ost. p It will` be readily seen from the above description, when taken in connection with the annexed drawing, that I provide substantialVtie-wires for the post which are quickly attached to the line-wires4 of an ordinary `wire fence. Furthermore, it will be observed .that in forming or molding the plastic post I provide a brace or support for the same of peculiar y construction, the upper portion thereof-being of two parts and twisted together, leaving at intervals eyes for the upper tie-wires, while the lower portions of said brace formrtwo Vertical supports, having the other tie-wires twisted about them and said brace when so constructed presenting a vertical forked strengthening-support, and the whole formed of a single piece, and a device as herein described is durable and at the same time cheap to manufacture.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is!- l. The combination in a plastic fence-post of the embedded support or brace consisting of the twin parallel portions and the upper single portion, tie-wires passing horizontally through the post and connected to the interior support, having their free ends projecting on either side of said post substantially as described.
2. The within-described fence-post comprising the post A, formed of plastic material and an interior brace consisting of the forked iron having the single upper stem and twin vertical supports and the tie-wires connecting said supports and extending out on either side of the post, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES A. MITCHELL.
