SPOUT FOR FLOUR-SIFTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,936, dated June 10, 1902.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY R. ROBERTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Northwood, in the county of Worth and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Spout for Flour-Sifters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improv ed spout for flour-sitters of that class employed in connection with gyratory bolts or plah-sifters;
and the object of my invention isto provide an improved spout adapted for use both to convey material to or discharge the same from. a plan-sitter and which spout is composed of a plurality of non-collapsible metallic tubu lar sections and flexible joints, which connect the same together to adapt the sectional spout to conform to the motion of'the plan-sifterf In the construction of my improved sitter spout I employ a pluralityof metallic tubular sections 1, 2, and 3. Thesection 1 is the intake-section, the section 2 is the intermediate section, and the section 3 is the discharge-section. In practice the said sections are preferably of cylindrical form and the same may be of sheet-tin or any other suitable sheet metal.
The sections 1 '2 are connected together by a flexible joint 4, which comprises a pair of conical sections .5 6-, the latter being inverted and the bases of the said sections 5 6 being secured together either by-stitching them or in any othersuitable manner. The section 5 is formed at its upper side with, a collar 5 of sufficient in'ternaldiameter to receivethe lower end of the upper metallic tubular'section 1'. The section 6 is provided at its lower side with a si milar collar 6, which receives .theupper end of the metallic tubular intermediate section 2. The flexible joint 7,which connects the intermediate tubular section 2 to the lower tubular section 3, is of the same constructionas the flexible joint 4. The sections of the said flexible joints or elbow members' of the spout are preferably made of leather Or other suitable flexible material.
'Rivets 8 on the collars of the flexible elbowsections secure the same to the metallic tubular sections of the spout.
It willbe" understood that the elbow'or joint each other, and hence my improved sitterspout is adapted to conform to the motion of the plan-sifteror gyratory bolt to which it is. connected andas indicated in Fig. 3 of the drawings. 7
It will'be understood that the tubular sections and flexible joint members of my improved sifter-spout are not liable to collapse while the plan sifte'r orgyratory bolt is in operation, and therebybecome choked. Hence a serious objection to the flexible sitter-spouts heretofore employed is obviated. It will be furthermore understood that the metallic tubular sections and the flexible leather joint members of my'improved sifter-spout are exceedingly durable and will not become speedilyworn through by the scouring. action of the materialwhich passes through the spout. Hence my improvediflour-sifter spout obviates another serious objection heretofore-ex- ;isting in spouts of thischaracter.

In a flour-sifter spout, the combination of a flexible joint member comprising a pair of truncated conical sections of flexible material having their bases joined together and having their truncated portions provided with collars, and inflexible tubular sections having their ends secured in the said collars, substantially as described.

In a flour-sitter spout, the combination of a flexible joint member comprising a pair of truncated conical sections made of leather, having their bases joined together and provided at their truncated portions with collars, and inflexible tubular sections having their ends secured in the said collars, sub- 20 V HENRY R.
