SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,692, dated June 3, 1902. Appliation filed January 6, 1902. SerialNo. 88,603. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, HERBERT G. EVERED, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cookv and State of Illinois, and JOHN F. EvERED,

residing at Montgomery city, Montgomery county, Missouri, citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and use# ful Improvements in lClothes-Driers; and we dodeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ot the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same, roference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. Our invention relates to clothes-driers, and has for its object the improvement of the device on which Patent No. 636,510 has heretofore been granted to Herbert C. Ever-ed, one of the inventors above mentioned. The improvements consist of novel means for securing the device to a window by which it may be adjusted to t windows of dierent sizes.

Referring to the drawings, 7 designates a horizontal supporting-frame secured to a window or other desirable place by means of two arms 8, which are provided at their inner ends with perforations 9, engaging hooks 10, 1ocated at opposite sides of a window 11. The

arms 8 are secured tothejsupporting-frame 7 by bolts k12, passing through said frames and arms. It will be seen that by loosening the nuts 13 of the aforesaid bolts 12 the arms S We have also improved the arrange-v ment of the parallel guide-rods, enablingthe may be adjusted to any desirable angle with respect tothe window, thus enabling the device to be used on different-sized windows. Afterthe arms 8 are properly adjusted as desired'the nuts 13 are tightened, preventing lateral movement of the frame.

Brackets 14 are bolted or otherwise secured to the supporting-frame 7, and mounted on said brackets are outwardly-extending parallel guide-'rods 15, their ends being connected in any desirable manner. Said guiderods are tubular and are secured to the brackets 14 by a .bolt 16, which passes through said brackets and into a nut 17, arranged within said guiderods, so as not to obstruct the removal of the reel 23.

An inclined brace or supporting-rod 18, provided at its lower end with a hook 19, engages an eye 20, secured to the end of the guiderods 15.V The other end of the brace or supporting-rod is also provided with a hook 2l, -which engages an eye 22, arranged at the top of a window. We have shown two braces or 'supporting-rods in the drawings; but it is obvious that only one may be used.

Mounted on'the guide-rods 15 and adapted to slide inwardly and outwardly thereon is a reel 23, comprising a hub 24, having radial arms 25. Bolted to the top and bottom of the -hub 24 are plates 26 and 27, said plates, with the radial arms 25,'forming armpits 28, adapted to receive the arms 29. The ends of the radial arms 25 are provided with studs or projections 30,-adapted to enter apertures in the `arms 29 for the purpose of preventing their withdrawal when the reel is drawn toward the window. The arms 29 are divided into two sections 29a. and 29h, connected by a hinge 29C'. The clothes-lines 31 are secured to hooks 32, suspended from the arms 29. Loosely passing through apertures 24a in the hub 24 and also through apertures 26 and 27 of the plates 26 and 27 is a tube 33, and extending through said tube is a bolt 34. The head oi the same engages the bottom of the tube. The other end of the bolt34 passes through a hanger 35, arranged to slide on Vthe guiderods land is secured thereto by a nut To prevent the reel being lifted off the vguiderods, we provide a plate 37, which is placed between the bottom of the hanger 35 and the IOO top of the tube 33. The parts beingsecurely locked together, the reel is free to revolve on the tube 33, which forms the shaft. The reel cannot slip off the shaft, being held thereto by the head of the bolt 31.

Changes in form and minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing in the least from the scope of this invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is

l. A clothes-drier comprising asupportingframe, provided with an adjustable inner portion adapted to be secured to a window, brackets, guide-bars mounted on said brackets, and a reel mounted on said guide-bars.
