Be it known that I, JAMEs S. GRIFFIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elgin, in the county of Bastrop and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rug-Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hangers, and more particularly to hangers for use in displaying rugs or other large flexible articles of merchandise.
An object of this invention is the provision of a hanger upon which a plurality of rugs or the like may be supported, the rugs being directly hung upon rollers so that they may be easily disengaged from the hanger.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a hanger which consists of a plurality of supporting rollers, the rollers being so mounted that they may be swung from side to side, whereby the rugs or other merchandise carried upon the hanger may be quickly and advantageously displayed. 7
W ith these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hanger showing one of the swinging members thereof. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary top plan view. Fig. 3 is a detail elevation showing the manner of connecting one of the swinging members to the upper supporting plate. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view showing the manner of connecting one of the supporting plates to the standard, and also showing one of the extension wings connected to the plate. Fig. 5 is a detail View showing the manner or connecting a pair of rollers to one of the brackets connected to the upper supporting plate; Figs. 6 and 7 are detail views of the upper end of the brace bar.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numerals 5 and 6 designate upper and lower supporting plates, respectively, the plates being secured to an angular standard 7, or other suitable support. The plates are preferably triangular in form and each plate has an angular recess 8 formed in its long edge, the recess being formed by punching portions of the plate downwardly at right angles to the plane thereof, as at 9. The downwardly extendmg flanges 9 are provided with openings 10 for the reception of nails or screws whereby the plates may be secured to the standard, the recesses being of sufiicient size to receive the standard so that the flanges closely engage the faces thereof. The plates 5 and 6 have spaced openings 11 formed therein adjacent their short edges each of the openings in the upper plate 5 being adapted for the reception of the downwardly offset inner end 12 of a brace rod 13. The brace rods 18 extend outwardly from the upper" plate 5, the outer ends thereof being threaded as at 1 1 for engagement in openings 15 formed in the offset arms 16 of the sleeves 17, the arms being secured on the rods by the nuts 18.
Offset plates 19 are provided for pivotal connection to the lower supporting plates 6, the offset portion of each plate 19 being provided with an opening 20, which is adapted to register with one of the openlngs '11 in the plate 6, the registering openings receiving the bolts 21, to the threaded extremities of which nuts 22 are connected to pivotally connect the lates 19 to the plate 6. The main portion of each plate l9is extended upwardly and is'connected in any desired manner to the lower end of an inclined brace bar 23, the upper ends of the brace bars being secured in the sleeves 17. Angular brackets 2% are arranged for engagement with the upper plates 5, the horizontal arm of each bracket being provided with an opening to receive the threaded offset extremity 12 of one of the rods 13, and the vertical arm of each bracket being also provided with an opening 26? adjacent the angle in the bracket, through which the outwardly extending portion of the rod 13 passes. The upper end of each bracket 24L is formed with a pair of spaced openings 25, for the reception of the spindles on the inner ends of a pair of rollers 26. The upper ends of each of the offset arms 16 of the sleeves 17 are forked to form a pair of diverging arms 27 which are provided with notches 28 to receive the spindles projecting from the outer ends of the rollers 26, and in this manner the rollers may be quickly applied to or removed from the hanger. If, desired, wings or extensions 28' having openings 29 therein, may be con nected to the opposite corners of the plates 5 and 6 so that additional rollers may be carried by the hanger in the aforesaid manner.
In setting up my improved hanger for use, the plates 5 and 6 are secured to the standard and the desired number of plates 19 are connected to the lower plate 6 by the bolts 21. A similar number of brackets 24 are connected to the upper plate 5 by the downwardly offset inner ends of the rods 18 as shown in the drawings. The brace bars 23 are then connected at their lower ends to the plates 19 and the arms 16 of the sleeves 17 which are connected to the upper ends of the bars 23 are mounted upon the outer ends of the rods and secured thereto by the nuts 18. The rollers are then connected to the brackets 24 and to the arms 27 whereupon the hanger is ready for use.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. The combination with a support, of a pair of vertically spaced supporting plates secured to the support, an inclined plate pivotally connected to the lower supporting plate, a bracket pivotally connected to the upper supporting plate, said bracket having a pair of transversely spaced openings there in, an inclined brace bar connected at its lower end to the inclined plate, a sleeve secured to the upper end of the brace bar, a pair of diverging arms extending vertically from said sleeve, each of said arms having an opening formed therein? and a pair of rollers revolubly connected at their inner ends in the openings in said brackets and at their outer ends in the openings in said arms.
2. The combination with a vertical support, of a pair of vertically spaced supporting plates secured to said support, an inclined plate pivotally connected to the lower supporting plate, a rod pivotally connected at its inner end to the upper supporting plate, a brace bar connected at its lower end to said inclined plate and at its upper end to the outer end of said rod, a bracket connected to the inner end of said rod, and a roller revolubly connected at its inner end to said bracket and at its outer end to the upper end of said brace bar.
3. The combination with a vertical support, of a pair of vertically spaced supporting plates secured to said support, an inclined plate pivotally connected to the lower supporting plate, the upper plate being formed with an opening adjacent its outer edge, an outwardly extending rod having its inner end ofiset downwardly, an angular bracket having an opening in its horizontal arm to aline with the opening in said upper plate, the vertical arm of said bracket also having an opening therein, said rod having its downwardly ofiset portion pivotally disposed through the alined openings, the body portion of said rod extending outwardly through the opening in the vertical arm of the rod, an inclined brace bar connected at its lower end to said inclined plate, and a roller revolubly connected at its inner end to said bracket and at its outer end to the brace bar, the outer end of the brace rod being connected to the brace bar below the roller.
