GEORGE A. COLTON, OF ADRIAN, AND' ALBERT D. ANGELL, CF COLD- WATER, MICHIGAN. Leffe-8 Patent No. 70,169, ma amber 29, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICE POB. TRUSS-SPRINGS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Beit known that we, GEORGE A. COLTON, of Adrian, Lenawee county, State of Michigan, and ALBERT D. ANGELL, of Coldwater, Branch county, State of Michigan, have invented Va. new and useful adjustable Device for Truss and Supporter-Springs; and we hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification.
4Our invention consists in n. peculiar device for adjusting truss or supporter-springs to give the requisite pressure upon the body; the distinguishing characteristics of the invention being that itv has greater range of' adjustability, is of simple construction, and within less dimensions than any device hitherto in use for this purpose. In the accompanying drawngsi i Figure 1 is a perspective view of a truss embodying our invention.
Figure 2 is aV section ofthe adjustable part ofthe same.
A A are the two sections of the truss-spring separately hinged at a a', as shown, to the lugs b 6 of the plate B. C C are the adjusting-screws, constructed with milled heads, (which bear against the springs at points slightly distant from the hinges a a,) and screwed Shanks, which t tapped apertures in the plate B. By the application of the fingers to the milled heads of the screws C Cl the truss can be expanded or contracted in dimensions to suit the requirements of the patient, the double screw giving a great degree of adjustability. The strain upon the screws is that of compression, which they are best able to resist, and the whole device is coinpact, durable, and of simple construction.
We claim herein as new, and of our invention- The plate B 6 b', and adjusting-screws C C', in combination with the hinged sections AA da of the trnssspring, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
In testimony of`which invention we hereunto set our hands.
GEO. A. COLTCN, ALBERT D. ANGELI'.
