Re it known that L WIIILIAM POMEROYQof the city, county, and State of New lYork,` have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hernia Truss; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art tol make nud use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in whieh- Figure I is an under side view of my improved truss.

Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. i v k l My invention'has for its object to furnish an improved truss. so constructed and arranged as atthe 'same time to give an upward and inward pressure; second, which may be lengtfiiened or shortened so as perfectly to adjust the pad to the hernia.; and, third, which will not allow the movements of the body to interfere with the position of the pad over the hernia; and itv consists, first, in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the pad-spring with the pad and with the mainsspring ofthe truss', and, second, in the combination of the slide or clasp and setfscrew with the parte of the muinspring of the truss, the whole being constructed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described. A is the bucle-pad, to the centre of which is pivoted the end of the main truss-spring B, by means ofa setA screw, C, which passes through a hole in the end of the spring B, and screws into a nut set in the body of the pad A. Several holes may be made through the end of the spring, so that the position of the pad A may be changed to t the truss to larger or smaller bodies. D is a keeper, attached to the side of the pad A, througlr which the spring B passes, and which prevents the sn-id pad fromrernlving. E is the hernia pad, which is made;

This spring is made in about the shape represented in 'igs.4 1 an l 2, and-its upper end is pivoted to the end ofl the mnin-spring as shown in iggZ, so that the pad E may maintain its position upon the hernia, however the spring may be moved by the movements ofthe body. The main-spring B may be made in one piece, or it maybe made in' two, if desired. This lutter construction' I prefer, as it enables the pad E to be accurately adjusted to the position of the hernia. In this case a clasp or slide, G, is made in the form represented in Hgs. 1 and 3, -which is securely riveted to the end of the part bl of tl1e`.spring B. The part 6210i' the spring B is then slid' into the groove of the clasp G, and it is held in any desired position by means of the set-screw H, which passes through a hole in thc clasp G and end of the part b of the spring B, and presses the part b2 of said spring against the flanges of the clasp G firmly, securngit in place. The part blV of the spring B, between the pad A and the clasp G, may be covered with leather, I, or other suitable material, to prevent it from chafing the body of the wearer. J is 'a strap, designed to secure the truss in position upon the body of the wearer. One end of the strap J is secured to the pad A by having the set-screw C pass through it. The other end has holes formed through it, and it is adjusted and secured in place by passing the projecting end of the pivot K through one of said holes, as shown in iig. l.
Having thus described lmy invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The' construction, combination, and arrangement of the pad-spring F with the pad E 'and main-spring B oi` .the truss, lsubstantially as herein described and for the purpose set forth.
