BRUSH.
SSECIFICAEIQN forming part of Letters 13a/tent No. 699,474, dated May 6, 1902.
Application filed January 21, 1902. Serial No. 90.677. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE H. BEASLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the countyof Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which ic it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in rotary brushes, and has for its object principally to provide au improved body portion or hub into which Jthe bristles of the brush are i5 secured.
Other features of novelty will hereinafter more fully appear, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l is a diamctric section through the 2o brush, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section through a 'brush embodying my improvements.
A represents the core of the brush, cylindrical in form, and may be composed of Wood z5 or any other suitable material. This core A is provided with a central opening a, adapted to receive a spindle or the like.
B is an annular band having the same width of the core A, but having a greater diameter.
3o This band B is mounted concentrically over the core A, leaving an annular space separating said parts. Fitted closely over this annular band B is a casing C, having a width greater than the band B to provide the overlapping edges c c. These portions B and C are provided with a series of corresponding perforations Zio co around the circumference. Into these perforations are inserted or drawn the bristles D, the ends of said bristles being 4o bound together by a thread, wire, or the like d. These bristles are passed through the openings bo c in the parts B and C and into the annular space separating the parts B and C from the core A, the inner ends of these bristles resting against the periphery of said core.
Upon each side of the brush are provided annular plates E E, having a diameter equal to that of the annular band B, so that said plates will just fit within the annular casing 5o C. These annular plates E E are secured in place by means of screws or the like e e, passed through said plates and secured in the core A. The overlapping edges c c upon the casing C are then crimped or rolled over the edge of the plates E E, firmly securing the same in position.
The annular space between the core A and the parts B and C is filled with some suitable cementing composition, which forms a firm foundation for the ends of the bristles D. oo
The casing C is preferably made of some suitable metal, suoli as copper' and the like, and the parts B and E of fiber; but it will be understood that I do not confine myself to any such materials, as different materials may be used to meet various requirements.
While I have shown my invention as embodied in the one particular form shown, it will be understood that I do not limit myself 'to the details shown, as many changes and 7o core, an annular space being left between said perforated parts and said core, bristles pass- 8o ing through said perforated parts and into said annular space, annular plates secured upon each side of said core, and a cementing composition filling said annular space.
2. In a rotary brush, the combination of an apertured core, a perforated band of greater diameter than said core encircling said core,
a perforated annular casing fitted over said band provided with overlapping edges, annular plates secured upon each side of said core, go over which are rolled said loverlapping edges, bristles passing throughlsaidband and casing, and a cementing composition filling the space between said band and core.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE IL BEASLEY.
