SEECIFECATION forming part of Letters `Ilatnent No. 695,289, dated March 11, 1902. Applieationled October 26, 1901.- Serial No. 80,098. (No model.)
. 'o @ZZ whom it may concern: 4
Beit known that I, PERKINS H. Dit ROCHE- MONT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chattanooga, in the county of Hamilton and its object is to provide a simple, inexpen-A sive, and durable device of the character 1 named which will serve as a trace hook or holder and electually prevent the accidental disengagement of the trace therefrom.
The invention comprises a stationary member adapted to be secured to the end of a vehicle-singletree and a movable member or hook supported in position by the stationary member and serving as a guard or safety device to prevent the accidental disengagement of the trace.
The construction and characteristic features of the invention will be specifically described in connection With the accompanying drawings and its points of novelty set forth in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a View in perspective of a singletree end iron or traceholder embodying the invention applied to a The reference-numeral 1 designates an anglo-plate, from the front of which projects an integral hook 2. From the rear end of the plate 1 extends laterally an arm 3, havinga curved odset 4f, which forms a bearing 5, for the purpose hereinafter explained. The arm 3 is parallel to the front lateral arm ,6 ofthe angle-plate, and both of said arms are formed with bolt-holes 7 to facilitate their attachment to a singletree 8, A spur or prong 9 projects from the inner side of the plate 1 and is designed to be driven into the end of the singletree to supplement the securingbolt 10. A
1l designates a hook constituting the movable member of the device and formed at its rear end with a vertical elongated slot 12, the front wall 13 of which is beveled to adapt it to conform to tlie outer rounded surface 14 of the curved offset of the arm 3, while its rear wall 15 is rounded to facilitate the movement ofthe hook.
As 'shown in the drawings, the hook 1l is supported within the seat or bearing 5 by passing the arm 3 through the slot 12 before the device is secured to the singletree.
The arms 3 and G embrace the end of the singletree and are secured thereto by the means described, thus presenting the hook 2 in position to be engaged by the trace.
The rear slotted end of the hook 11 is-inwardly curved, as at 16, to enable said hook to snugly overlap the outer side of the rigid hook 2, and the front end of the hook 11. is
formed With an inwardly-projecting lug 17,
which closes the hook 2 and effectually prevents the disengagement of the trace without the manipulation of the movable hook.
As shown in Fig. 1, the trace-ring engages both of the hooks 2 and 1l and is securely held thereby.
I claim- 1. A singletree end iron comprising a stationary member adapted to be secured to the end of a singletree and having a hook, and a movable member consisting of a hook having its rear end provided with a slot through which the stationary member extends Vsupported upon the stationary member and overlapping the hook thereof.
2. A singletree-iron comprising an angleplate `having a rigid hook projecting from the front thereof, and a laterally-extending arm at the rear curved to form a bearing, and a movable hook slotted at its rear end to receive the rear arm of the angle-plate and overlapping the outer, side of the rigid hook.
3. The "combination With the parallel arms,
end plate and forwardly-proj ecting rigid hook,
of a hook slotted and inwardly curved at its `rear end and formed at its forward end with IOS) plate, a hook projecting from the front thereof, a laterally-extending arm, a prong formed thereon and projecting inwardly therefrom a curved offset, and a movable hook having its rear end formed with an elongated slot adapted to receive one arm of the angle plate, whereby said end is adapted to bear in the offset.
G. The combination with the angle-plate Io and forwardly-projccting rigid hook, of a movlable hook loosely mounted on the angle-plate in presence Of two Witnesses.
PERKINS H. DE' ROCHEMON'I.
