SEEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 695,063, dated March 11, 1902. Application filed July 17,1901. $erial No. 68,688. (No model.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN QLOOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tudor, county of Sutter, State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mop-Heads,
of which the following is a specification.
The object is to provide a mop-head with simple devices for tightening the clamp on the mop-cloth. This is accomplished by using a snap-lever pivoted to a ring or annular yoke that is movable along the handle and engages a ratchet attached to the handle. The arrangement is such that the entire handle can be made of wood and of the same diameter throughout.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of'the mop-head in an open position. Fig. 2 is a side view in the closed position. Fig. 3 is a yoke on the handle, taken on line to w of Fig. 2.
a is the mop-handle; a, the clam p-head; a the clamp device; I), the ratchet on the handle 5 c, the lever, and (Z the yoke. The ratchet b is attached to the handle in any of the usual ways. The yoke (Z is applied by slipping it over the end of the handle and has the diameter enlarged in the direction of the ratchet at CZ" to an extent that allows it to pass over the ratchet when it is brought to the right angle of the handle, as shown in dotted lines 31 3 Fig. 2, and as seen in Fig. 3. A suitable catch d is provided in the yoke for engaging the ratchet. The lever c is pivoted in the yoke at C1 and a clamp a is pivoted to the Any kind of a clamp 35 lever at the lugs c c.
and clamp-head may be used, as the yoke maintains the clamp in line with the handle. Also the lever 0 may be of any desirable shape. A plate 6 may be used on the handle under the yoke to prevent the yoke from 0 chafing the handle. The yoke d should be of sufficient strength not to compress the sides when the draft of the lever comes on the pivotbox d The operation is as follows: The lever c is raised, as in Fig. 1. The mop-cloth is then inserted between the clamp and clamp-head,
after which the yoke is placed in the tooth of the ratchet required by the size of the mopcloth and the lever put down, as in Fig. 2. The draft of the clamp then comes on the lever below the pivot d and the yoke is held in place by the pressure in the pivot-box d drawing the catch at into the ratchet 1).
Having described my invention, what I 5 5' claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a mop-head, a handle provided with. a clamp-head and with a ratchet, an annular yoke surrounding the handle and ratchet and movable therealong and engaging the ratchet, said yoke having a section of sufficient diameter to operate over the ratchet, alever pivoted to said yoke and a clamp device pivoted to the lever.
