Description
F. PPUSTLER.
NOSE CLAMP FOR HORSES. APPLIUATION FILED DEO.19, 1910.
Patented Dec. 17, 1912.
COLUMBIA PLANOQRAPH co-,WAsHINuTON, D. :4
WNTTED STATES PATENT @FFTQE.
FRANK PFUSTLEB, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NOSE-CLAMP FOB HORSES.
Application filed December 19', 1910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, FRANK PFUSTLER, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Nose Clamps for Horses, of which the following is a specification.
Heretofore it has been found that a horse could be easily controlled by gripping its nose wit-h one hand. Although this practice is quite effective while a tight grip is maintained on the nose, the horse is always liable to wrench away when the hand becomes tired and the grip is, as a consequence, somewhat released.
The main objects of this invention are to provide a nose clamp for horses by means of which the horse may be held or controlled; to provide a nose clamp for horses which is adapted to be secured to the horses nose and to provide a firm grip thereon; and to provide a nose clamp for horses which is of cheap and simple construction and which is adapted to be easily operated to grip or release the horses nose.
The invention consists of the matters hereinafter described in the specification and more fully pointed out and defined in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a View of a horses head with a nose clamp attached thereto; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the nose clamp; and Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the movable bar shown in Fig. 2.
In the construction shown, an approximately rectangular frame or member 1 is provided, of which the sides 2 are parallel and provide guide bars or ways for the movable clamping bar 13. The end l of said frame is curved longitudinally to provide a concave surface extending longitudinally of the inner side of said end, and is curved or rounded transversely thereof on its inner surface, so as to conform to the side of the horses nose and not injure the same. The other end 5 of the frame is provided with a centrally disposed, internally threaded boss 6. The clamping bar 13 is provided with a bolt or stem 1 1 which extends through an adjacent sleeve 15 which is in threaded engagement with the boss 6. A helical spring Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 17,1212.
Serial No. 598,052.
16 is carried on said bolt 14 and bears at one end against the sleeve 15 and at the other end against the bar 13. Said spring normally forces the clamping bar 13 toward the curved end 4. Said bar 13 is provided with rings 17, through which two fingers of one hand may be inserted, and the end 5 of the frame is provided with finger rings 18 through which two fingers of the other hand may be inserted in order that the operator may secure a tight grip on the frame. The clamping bar 13 is provided with notches 19 at its ends, which notches receive the guide bars 2, and the side or edge of the bar 13 which contacts with the nose of the animal is rounded or beveled so as not to cut or injure the animal.
When it is desired to use the invention, the upper lip or end of the horses nose is placed in the opening between the bar 13 and the end 4, the bar being retracted against the tension of the spring so as to admit the horses nose in the space provided therefor. The sleeve 15 may be adjusted in the boss 6 so as to regulate the tension of the spring.
I claim as my invention:
1. A nose clamp for horses comprising a rigid one-piece frame having a threaded boss at one end and having its opposite end curved outwardly, laterally directed rings on the frame, a straight clamping bar slidably mounted on the sides of the frame, rings on said bar, a sleeve having threaded engagement in said boss, a bolt extending through said sleeve and connected with said bar, and a spring interposed between the sleeve and bar.
2. A nose clamp for horses comprising a one-piece rectangular frame, one end of which is provided with an internally threaded boss and having its other end curved outwardly, laterally directed rings on the frame, a straight clamping bar slidably mounted on the sides of the frame, rings on said bar, a bolt extending through said boss and connected with said. bar, a spring interposed between the boss and bar, and means for adjusting said spring.
3. A nose clamp for horses comprising a rigid one-piece frame, having an internally threaded boss at one end and having its opposite end curved outwardly, laterally directed rings on the frame, a straight clamp- In Witness whereof I have hereunto subing bar mounted on the sides of the frame, scribed my name in the presence of two rings on said bar an adjusting sleeve in Witnesses.
said boss, a bolt extending through said FRANK PFUSTLER. sleeve and connected With said bar, and a Witnesses:
spring interposed between said sleeve and GEO. A. RUTHs,
ar. JOSEPH SOHLENKER.
