SUSPENSORY.
SPECIFECATION fOIlrning part 0f LB'UGIS Patent O. 692,043, dated January 28, 1902.
i Application flledAugust 28, 1901. Serial No. 73,5726; (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern,.-
scrotum; and the features of invention con` sist of the means for holding the device in position and their particular arrangement, attachment, and manufacture.
In the following specification, and particu- I larly pointed out in the claims, is found a full description of the invention, together with its parts, manner of use, and manufacture, which latter is also illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows the entire device as the same appears when in position. Fig. 2 shows a side Fig. 3 is an under side view of Fig. 2.
6 is the supporting member proper and might be described as a horizontallysuspcnded bag open at both ends and on most of its upper side, where it is attached to a shield 7, which when in position covers the pubic region. Its lower side :is extended rearwardly into the crotch. These two parts constitute the suspensory proper and are held in position iirst by leg-bands 8, preferably elastic, one passing around the outside of each leg and attached in front to shield 7. This attachment is detachable and consists of a button 9 on each side of the shield for cach band,
which is received by fastening-loops 10 at one of the ends of each band. The other or in- `ner ends of these bands are permanently attached each to an angle-piece 11, preferably of soft leatheigwhereby these bands are joined to each other at an angle to cause them to diverge outwardly. By means of a hook-andeye connection 12 these two joined bands as a Whole attach to the rear end of member 6. A gusset 13 is provided at this end of the latter for attachment of one of the complementary members of the hook-and-eye connection parts of a suitable fastening device, which may be a button 18 at one end and fasteningloops 19 at the other. Straps 20, reaching from this waistband down to the hip-band, connect this latter to the former, these straps having loops at each end through which the bands mentioned loosely pass. Part of each strap and band is doubled by having one end of. each passed through the fastening devices, loops 10, 16, and 19 in case of bands 8, 14, and 17, after which these ends in all cases attach to customary extension-buckles 21, so that the lengthof each and all of these bands and straps may be adjusted by the adjustable position of these loops.
It will be noted that this suspensory provides for independent adjustment of any and all its parts, and by means of the various holding-bands the samecannot become loose and shift its position when once attached.
The supporting member 6 and shield7 may be entirely disconnected from any and all means holding it in position, which is a great convenience and permits change and Washing of the same.
Having described my invention, I claim as newi 1. In a suspensory, the combination of a rearwardly-extended supporting member' 6, having a gusset 13, fastening-bands to hold it in posit-ion above, leg-bands 8, a leather angle 11 whereby they are connected to each other at an angle and a hook-and-eye fastening device, the complementary parts of which are attached one to gusset 13 and the other to angle 11, whereby the joined leg-bands are attached to the extended rear end of the suspensory.
2. In a suspensory, the combinationof the l supporting member 6,a shield 7 above it to the lower edge of which it is attached, two buttons 9 and 15 near each of the lateral edges of the shield and one below the other, leg bands 8 attached, each with one of their ends to the rear part of the supporting member and having fastening-loops 10 at their free ends adapted to engage each the lower button 9 on each side of shield '7 and a hip-band 14 having at each of its ends fastening-loops 16, adapted to engage each one of the upper buttons 15 on each side of the shield, the engagement of the ends of these bands to shield 7 being in each case such that this latter may be entirely disconnected from each band.
3. In a suspensory, the combination of the supporting member 6, a shield 7 above it to the lower edge of which it is attached, legbands 8 each connected at one of its ends to the rear part of the supporting member, fastening devices to attach the other free end of each of these bands to shield 7, of the complementary part-s of these fastening devices one being attached to the free end of each of these bands 8 and the other to shield 7, one near the lower part of each lateral edge thereof, a hip-band 14, and fastening devices for it, ofthe complementary parts of which one is attached to each end ot' this band and the others to shield 7 and near the upper part of each lateral edge and above the other fastening devices on said shield rst mentioned, a belt or waistband 17 and straps 20 connecting it with hip-band 14, the connection at each end of these straps being by means of a loop through which bands 14 and 17 respectively pass.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
