Description

No. 589,95. Patented Dec. 3|, l90l. M. RUBIN.
SUSPENSION CLASP.
(Application filed Sept. 25, 1901.)
(N0 Model.)
wmvesss 0 o N v #ATTOHNEK UNrTnp STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX RUBIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SUSPENSION CLASP.
Application filed September 25, 1901. Serial No. 76,503. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom Lt may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX RUBIN, a citizen of. the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the countyof New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Suspension-Clasp, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved suspension-clasp for suspending articles, such as hose and garment supporters, firmly and securely from a headed stud-such, for example, as a corset-studand which clasp is simple in construction, strong, durable, and reliable and can be easily and rapidly applied, opened, and closed.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the views, Figure 1 is a rear View of my improved suspension-clasp closed. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view opened. Fig. 3 is a similar view closed. Fig. 4 is a front view. Fig. 5- shows how suspension bands are held on a corset.
The back plate A is provided with a hole B of sufficient size to permit passing the head (J of a stud D through it, and from said opening a recess E extends upward and is of sufficient size to receive the shank of said stud. At its upper end the plate A has a lockinglug G of any suitable kind or shape. An elongated eye H for attaching a band or tape is provided at the lower end of the plate A.
The front plate J is hinged at its lower end to the bottom part of the plate A in such a manner that it can swing toward and'from the face of the plate A and is provided with an opening K of such size that the head (3 of the stud can readily pass into it, and at the upper edge of such opening a spring lookinglug L is formed, which can engage with the locking-lug G to hold the plate J to the front ,of the plate A. A prong M projects upward and from the inner face of the plate Jin such a manner that its upper edge will about coincide with the bottom of the recess E when the two plates A and J are locked together, the prong M passing more or less into the open ing 13.
To apply the clasp, the plate A is hung on ing the recess E.
'When this clasp is applied and locked on a corset-stud e and eye d of the usual construction, it prevents the opening of such corset-fastening, as shown in Fig. 5.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a suspension-clasp, the combination with a back plate having a hole and a recess extending from said hole, of a front plate hinged on the back plate to fold upon the same and provided with an opening and a prong at the bottom of said opening and pro jecting from the rear face of said front plate to cover the hole in the back plate when the plates are folded together and means for looking the two plates together, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination with corset-stays of an eye on one stay, a headed stud on the other stay, a back plate provided with a hole for said stud and a recess extending from such hole, a front plate hinged to said back plate and provided with an opening and a prong at the bottom of said opening and projecting from the rear face of said front plate and means for locking the front and back plate together, whereby the corset is locked and cannot be opened as long as the clasp is closed, on the stud, substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 24th day of September, A. D. 1901.
MAX RUBIN.
