MEANSFOR ATTACHING ENVhLUt-"S FUN ADDRESSING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 689,298, dated December 1'7, 1901. Applicaticn filed May 22, 1901. Serial No. 61,358. (No model.)
To all 1071 0711 it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARCUS H. FRIED, a an zen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsbnrg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Attaching En velops for Addressing, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in means for attaching envelope foraddressing, and relates more particnlarly to envelops that are to be addressed by means of a type-writer.
The invention has for its object the provision of novel means whereby a series of envelops are readily attached together in order that they may be continuously fed into a type-writer and addressed; furthermore, to provide means that will allow the envelops to be easily detached after anumber of themv have been addressed. I
A still further object of the inventionis to pr vide an attachment that will be inexpeusive, strong, simple, and durable.
A still further object of the invention is to attach the envelops one to another in such a manner that a continuous strip is obtained; furthermore, to arrange the attachment in such a manner that the same will not detract from the appearance of the envelope after the same have been severed from one another.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indi ate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a rear view of a series of envelops having my improvements attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a front View of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional vi the line 3 3 of Fig. 2 looking in. the direction taken on lower end of saidsecuring-strip is slightly beveled, as shown at 4, in order to conform with the ends of ti flap 5 of the envelop. The securilag-strip. e gummed on one side, half of the securiin rip being placed upon oneenvelop and t other half upon the f. es of the other env thereby securing same together, 13h orations being a u ranged as to come een or at the jun-ctr: of the two envelope 1 this way a se envelops are conne together, which. be easily fedinto a c -writer and read severed from one another when desired.
The many advantages obtained by the use of my improved device wiiibe readily parent from the foregoing description, ta. in in connection with the accompanying draw ings.
Byactnal practice I found l terial saving in the time consumed by employing my improved means nan ould otherwise he obtained by the common praetice of addressing each envelop separately in the type-writer, rem ving the same, and then placinganother machine to be simiinventic care by .7.

In testimony whereof I affix mysignature in the presence of two witnesses.
