vlittorale eHow-CASE FIXTURE,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 686,524, dated November 12, 1901. Application filed July 11, 1901. Serial No. 67,833. (No model.)
T0 all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNEST A. LOWE, a citi- Zen of the United States, and a resident of Plainfield, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Electric Show- Case Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to electric fixtures for show-cases, and particularly to a device whereby an electric lamp or lamps may be secured inv place in the angles of a show-case and readily adjusted so as to screen them by the molding or corner-pieces to which they are attached or to cause them to throw the rays of light in the desired direction.
The object of the invention is to so improve upon xtures for these purposes that they may be readily attached, detached, and adjusted in the angles of any show-case or display-window.
With this object in view the invention consists in the formation and combination of parts, as hereinafter fully described and Claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a portion of a show-case with the im-l proved ixtures applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a detail on an enlarged scale. Figs. 3 and 4 are sectional and plan views of one form of the improved fixture.
The portion of a show-case in which I have chosen to illustrate the attachment of the improved ixture is represented at 5. To the corner-piece or frame ofthe show-case I attach a tube in any convenient way. i The pre? ferred manner of so doing consists in using a vertical section of tube 6, as shown, which may rise from the bottom of the show-case in one corner thereof and to which a horizontal section of tube, as 7, may be joined, as by means of an elbow 8, said horizontal section lying, preferably, in the forward upper angle of the case. One end thereof is attached to the elbow S, as indicated in Fig. 2, and may be secured to the frame of the show-case at the other end by any suitable means-nas, for instance, by a metallic strip 9. To the section of tubing 7 may be attached one or more incandescent lamps, as indicated at 10,
each being provided with a suitable reflector, (represented at 11.) For the attachment of these lamps to said tube a tubular bracket, as l2, is provided, which has preferably a concave cylindrical base, whereby it istted to said tube, and this base is provided with slots 13, through which pass screws for securing it to said tube. In the tube and registering with the hole through the bracket 12 6o is formed an aperturelt. From said tube Wires may be passed through the tubular bracket to the lamp. By constructing the tubular bracket as just described the wires leading from the lamp through the bracket |35 into the ltube will not become distorted or the insulation thereof abraded in securing the bracket to the tube'7, as is frequently the case where similar brackets are secured in place by screwing them into sockets, this dis- 7o tortion of the Wires being prevented by attaching the bracket by means of the screws passing through the slots 13 into the tube 7. The slots 13 also provide for an accurate adjustment or alinement of the incandescent lamps. I also prefer to make the tube 7 adj ustable upon the elbow 8 in order to throw the rays of the lamps attached to said tube in the desired direction, and therefore provide a set-screw, as 4, which passes through 8o said tube and engages with the reduced portion of the elbow 8, as clearly seen in Fig. 2.
Obviously a supporting-tube may be provided at the right-'hand end of the show-case corresponding to the tube 6, shown at the left- 8 5 hand end thereof. However, this is not necessary for the support of the tube 7 nor to furnish a conduit for the wires.
In some instances it is desirable to provide a support for the lamp other than the tubular 9o support just described. Such alternative form of support may be made as illustrated at 15, Figs. 1, 3, and 4. It consists vof a stand having preferably a cylindrical surface for the attachment thereto of the tubular bracket 12, and into this stand pass screws, as 16, through the slots 13 in the base of the bracket 12. An aperture 17 is formed through the cylindrical surface of the stand 15 for thepassage of wires to the lamp through the holroo low bracket. These wires may be led to the cavity in the stand 15 in any suitable wayas, for instance, along the surface of the showcase frame to said stand, Where they may pass under the base thereof into said cavity. The lamp-socket is preferably screwed to the hollow bracket 12. It is obvious that the lamp mounted upon the tubular bracket 12 and secured to the stand 15 may be adjusted and alined in the same manner as one mounted upon the tube 7. The form of the stand and the manner of attachment of both the tube and the stand and likewise the form of the tubular bracket may be changed without departing from the invention.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. In a show-case fixture, a hollow support attachable to the frame of.` a show-case and adapted to receive electrical conductors and provided with a lateral opening through which said conductors may pass, and a hollow bracket for supporting an electric lamp and having a base litted to said support over said lateral opening and provided with transverse slots for the passage of screws into said support for the adjustment thereon of the hollow bracket as set forth.
2. In a show-case fixture, a hollow support attachable to the frame of a show-case and provided with a cylindrical surface with an opening therethrough to the interior of said support, and a hollow bracket for supporting an electric lainp and having a concave cylindrical base located over said opening and provided with transverse slots for the passage of screws into said support.
3. In a show-case the combination with a vertically-arranged tube having an elbow at its top of a horizontal tube attached adjustably to said elbow and provided with a lateral opening, and a hollow bracket for supporting an electric lamp and having a concave base located over said opening and provided with transverse slots for the passage of screws into said tube, substantially as set forth.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 19th day of June, A. D. 1901.
ERNEST A. LOWE.
