To all whom t may concern Be it known that we, JOHN F. GILGHRIST and GUsTAv B. Kinn, citizens of the United States, and residents of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements 'in Electric-Lighting Fixtures; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in electric lighting )fixtures and, more particularly, to a bracket support for a reflector' and for its llamp socket.
vThe invention consists of the matters hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The object of the invention is to provide a bracket support of the kind described, which is capable of easy attachment to an electric sign or other device containing electric conductors and in which the parts providing the conduits for .the electric conductors `to supply the lamp are so constructed and arranged that the reflector may be quickly adjusted to direct the light in any direction as desired.
The advantages of the improvement will appear as we proceed with our specification.
In the drawings z-Figure 1 is a view representing an electric sign 4supported by the front of a building and extending transversely of the sidewalk, the sign having attached to it our improved bracket support, which is adjusted so as to direct the light of the reiiector through the show window of the building. Fig. 2 is a view representing on an enlarged scale the bracket support as it would appear when looked at from a position over against the front of the building, one part of said view being in vertical section to show the inner construction. Fig. 8 is a view representing a vertical section through Fig. 2 in a plane indicated by the line 3 3 of said iigure. representing a partial vertical section through Fig. 2 in a plane indicated by line 4--4 of said figure.
Fig. 4 is a view` Referring now to that embodiment of our invention illustrated in the drawings,i10 indicates the front wall of a building having a show glass window 11.

The sign 14 is an electric sign of familiar' construction, comprising a hollow frame 15 and a sign `panel 16, the frame 15 having attached to it the yusual electric lamps v17 which are supplied by wires contained inthe hollow frame l5.

Said bracket, as shown, is attached to the front edge ofthe hollow sign frame 15, and, as illustrated, is of duplex form, including two bracket arms, 19, `19, each being adapted for the support of a reiiector and its -lamp socket Aand each providing'a conduit for the passage of the line wires that supply said socket.
2() indicates a box which comprises the base of the bracket. Said base consists of an elongated, cylindrical box which is preferably iiattened on its front side intermediate its ends to receive a cover plate 21 that closes an opening 22 formed in the front wall of the box. The back ofthe boxis provided with longitudinally 'spaced apertures to receive bolts 23 which extend through similarly placed apertures in the edge of the sign .frame 15 and are threaded into a bar or plate 24 in such manner that the bolts will securely clamp the box to the front edge of the sign frame. Intermediate the aforesaid bolt apertures, .there are provided registering Openings 25 in the back wall of the boxj'.;

Each bracket arm 19 is tubular to provide a conduit for the line wires. extends at an angle, as shown, a right angle,

Said arm` its plane. Thus by means of the two adjustments, the reflector and its socket are capable of universal adjustment.
The arms 19 are connected to the base as follows z-Each end of the box is threaded to receive internally and externally threaded nipples 26, 26. The main part of the arm 19 is a tubular elbow 19a which is threaded at one end into the nipple 26. Lock nuts 27, 28 are provided respectively on the threaded end of the elbow, and on the external thread of the nipple for locking the arm in position after it has been adjusted to the desired angle. lThe opposite end of the arm 19 is threaded internally to receive an externally threaded sleeve 29. T he other end of said sleeve 29 is threaded into one end of a second elbow 30, which constitutes the part of the arm 19 that is immediately connected to the lamp socket and reflector. Jam nuts 3l, 32 lock the sleeve 29 with reference to the second elbow to which it is connected.
ll'he lower end of the second elbow 30 is threaded as indicated at 33, and the reflector 3l and the lamp socket 35 are screwed upon the said thread, a am nut 36 acting to lock the parts in position.
3T indicates the line wires to supply the lamp socket 35, said line wires being threaded through the elbow 19, the sleeve 29 and the second elbow 30.
1t is manifest that, by reason of the adjustable connection of the arm 19 with the end of the base 20, the reflector may be swung in a plane parallel to the plane of the sign le, that is to say, in a plane at right angles to the longitudinal. central axis of the base 20, so as to swing the reflector into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. l. In a similar manner, the reflector may be swung in a horizontal plane, that is to say, in a plane parallel to the longitudinal central axis of said base by reason of the connection between the second elbow 30 and the sleeve The adjustments referred to may be easily brought about by simply loosening the jam nuts.
By removing the cover plate 21, free access is given to the interior of' the base for the purpose both of securing the fixtures in position in the first place and for the purpose of repairing or renewing the line wire connections when desired.
W e claim as our invention l. A bracket support for reflectors and the like comprising a hollow base, said base having an apertured back wall and having a front wall provided with an opening, a removable cover plate for closing said opening, and a tubular bracket arm connected to and opening through the end of said base, said bracket arm comprising a main elbow attached to the base and a second elbow connected to the first elbow and forming the immediate support for `the reflector and the like, and a tubular member connecting said two elbows, all of said parts being connected together so as to provide for adjustment whereby said reflector and the like may be adjusted to different positions.
2. A bracket support for reflectors and the like comprising an elongated cylindrical base, said base having an apertured back wall and having a front wall provided with an opening, said front wall being flattened about said opening, a removable cover plate for closing said opening, and a tubular bracket arm connected to an opening through the end of said cylindrical base, said bracket arm comprising a main elbow attached to the base and a second elbow connected to the first elbow and forming immediate support for the reflector' and the like, and a tubular member connecting and threaded into each of said elbows, jam nuts to lock said tubular member and elbow together, an internally and externally threaded nipple connecting said main elbow t0 said base and am nuts on the said elbow and the said nipple for locking said main elbow in position.
