PUTTYlNG-IVIACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 684,503, dated October 15, 1901.
' Application filed April 9, 1900. Serial No- 12,'268. (No model.)
tel-Bay, in the county of Nassau and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Puttying-Machine, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to improvements in puttying-machines; and the object of my invention is to insert or apply putty, white lead, and also hot pitch in the seams of woodwork or metal; and it consistsin the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents a cylinder for holding the putty and the like. To the operating end of the tube I provide a screw-cap 5, having on its outer face portion a nut 7, through which passes a screw/threaded plunger-rod 2. To
the upper end of the plunger-rod 2 I provide a plunger 4, made of any suitable material and having on opposite side faces nuts 16 and 17, whereby to hold the plunger in proper position on the upper end of the plunger-rod 2. To the upper end of the cylinder I attach in any suitable manner a plug 8, having open' ings therein for the securing of tubes 3, held together at their terminal ends by means of a screw-bolt 10. On opposite outer sides of these tubes 3 I provide openings 9, through which the puttyis allowed to flow, and below one of these openings 9 is a projection 11 or what may be termed a seam-gage. To the outer end of the screw-threaded plunger-rod 2 I secure an operating-handle 13, by means of which the putty contained in the cylinder is forced through the openings 9 of the tubes 3.
Having described my invention, What I claim is In a machine of the character described, the combination with the cylinder having a screw-cap on one end, and a nut connected thereWith,a screw-threaded plunger-rod passing through the cap and nut, a plunger on the upper portion of said rod, of a plug secured to the upper end of the cylinder and having tubes with side openings connected thereto, and a gage below one of said open ings, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK M. FLO WVER.
