W/TNESSES:

NIPPLE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters :Patenta No. 652,034, dated J' une 19, 1900.
Application filed September 29, 1899. Serial No. 732.044. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN W. MEI- NECKE, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State ot' New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Nipple-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to improve upon the Construction of nipple-holders for which patentwas granted to Thomas Borcher, dated October 17, 1899, No. 635,226, the im provenents being such that the holder is rendered more effective than heretofore and is stronger and less liabie to disarrangement.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as Will be hereinafter fully set fcrth, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the acconpanying drawings, formin g a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved nipple-holder and attached nipple. Fi g. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through the nipple and its holder; and Fig. 3 is a partial side elevation and partial vertical section of a nipple and holder, the body of the holder being constructed in a slightly-different manner than shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The nipple A is hollow and of that type known as a blind nipple and is used in connection with a button or shield B, the fiange 10 of the nipple being passed through the usual central opening in the said shield. The handle ll may be of the elongated type, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or it may be constructed as shown in Fig. 3, wherein the handle is used in connection with a ring 12. Each form of the handle is provided with an exteriorly-threaded tubular stem 13, adapted to extend within the nipple A, the said stem being preferably an integral portion of the head 14 of the handle, and the stem is of less diameter than the head, forming thereby a shoulder 15 at the head, which shoulder engages With and presses against the fiange of the nipple when the nipple has been passed through the button or shield and the stern has been introduced through the opening in the button or shield and into the nipple, as shown in both Figs. 2 and 3.
W'hen the handle is constructed as shown pleted by the addition of a nut 18, which nut is placed within the nipple before the flange of the nipple is passed through the button or shield, and 'then the stern 13, after being passed into the nipple, is serewed into the said nut until the fiange 15 of the handle clamps the said fiange between it and the opposing surface of the button or shield.
It will be observed that the Construction above set forth is exceedingly simple, but few parts are required, and the various parts may be quickly assembled.. Furthermore, the device Will securely retain the nipple in position, rendering it impossible for the nipple to be pulled from the holder.
The threads on the tubular stern 13 may be omitted and the stem be cemented in the nut, if desired. ti
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination with a nipple, of a nut inserted within the mouth thereof, a button inserted over the said mouth and whose opening which reeeves the nipple is of less diameter than the lower edge of the nut, and a handle formed with a head at one end of larger diameter than the opening in the button, and a reduced extension beyond said head, the said extension being inserted and held in the nut and being of such .a length that a space will be left between the nut and head for the location of the button When the said stern is inserted in the nut, said space allowing for the swelling of the rubber of the nipple When pressed between the adjacent edges of the head, button, and nut, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHRISTIAN W. MEINECKE.
