jade 7L2??? UNITED STAT S PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREIV BILLE AND MARIE O. J. BIIILE, OF SPOKANE, XVASHINGTON.
SLIDING DOORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 684,405, dated October 15, 1901.
Application filed May 2, 1901.
To all whom it ntay concern:
Be it known that we, ANDREW BILLE and MARIE C. J. BILLE, citizens of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Closings Above Sliding Doors; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of our invention is to provide a means of covering the opening over sliding doors to prevent the circulation of air down from the attic or space above the door and to have the apparatus so arranged that it will not interfere with the opening and closing of the door and so that the opening will be covered whether the door is partially or wholly open. This we accomplish by means of a row of plates extending across the top of the door over the opening, so arranged by means of securing the same to a steel rod running the entire length of the opening over the door by a hinge at one end of the plates, leaving the other end of the plates free to raise and lower as the door is opened and closed, the same being raised by means of a plow attached to the top of the door, as the door is closed, and allowed to drop back in place over the opening above the door as the door is opened.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents the entire apparatus in place, showing the same attached. to top of door. Fig. 2 represents the plow, that is secured to top of the door, that raises the plates as door is closed. Fig. 3 represents the plate that holds the plow in place at rear of door. Fig. at represents the hinge Sena-1N0. 58,628. (NomodeL) for holding plates in place on steel bar. Fig. 5 represents the steel bar extending entire length of opening over door on which the steel plates are attached. Fig. 6 represents steel plate detached.
The plate A I being placed on the rod E by means of the hinge D and the plow B being secured to the top of the door by means of the plate G, the invention is in readiness for use, the same being self operating as the door is opened and closed by the individual wishing to operate it.
The invention may be used for single or double doors, any width or size, and plates and plow may be made of any material de sired.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and useful, and ask for Letters Patent on, is-= The combination of the steel plates on a rod over the opening over a sliding door by means of a hinge connecting the two so arranged as to be raised and lowered by means of a plow fastened to the top of the door, as the door is opened and closed, the plates lying horizontally and covering the opening over the door while open and being raised by means of the plow as the door is closed, so as to allow of the free action of the rollers and other machinery of the sliding door; substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we have affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
ANDREW BILLE. MARIE C. J. BILLE.
Witnesses 2 L. L. WEsrFALL, v M. ARANT.
