Description

D. SWINFORD. ROTARY HINGED DOOR. APPLIOATIONTILED MAY 16 Patented June 24, 1913.
a E m l/ /fiwlu ATTOR NEY COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH CO.,WASHINGTON, D. c.
'UNKTEE STATES PATENT @FFEQE.
DWIGHT SYVINFORD, OF CLYDE, MISSOURI.
ROTARY I-IINGED DOOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DWIGHT Swnvrono, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clyde, in the county of Nodaway and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotary Hinged Doors, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a rotary hinge especially adapted to be combined with silo doors by the use of which hinge the door may be swung inside a silo and up and back against the inside thereof.
I accomplish my object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure l is a cross section of a closed door and door frame showing the rotary hinge connected at one end to the door frame and at the other end to the door, the dotted lines indicating the door swung to an elevated open position; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of Fig. 1 showing the door frame, the door and the hinge, the door being shown in closed position; Fig. 3 is an inside view of the door frame, the door swung up against the upper part of the inside of a side of said frame, and Fig. elis a sectional. detail of a swivel hinge and bearing connected with the door.
Similar letters refer to similar parts througl'lout the several views.
The letter A represents one of the door frames for a silo and B is a silo door.
C a hinge plate provided integrally with two forwardly projected lugs D D. Said plate is rigidly attached to one side of the frame of the door near the top thereof, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Said lugs carry the ends of a bolt (Z which bolt carries one end of the rotary hinged strap H. E is a plate pivotally secured on said door B by means of a bolt I, said bolt being seated in bearing J. The ends of door plate B are bent forward forming perforated lugs F F carrying a bolt f with which the other end of said rotary hinged strap engages. Said hinged strap H serves a dual purpose partly constituting the means by which a silo door is rotated and also forming a ladder by which to reach any higher door.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 697,690.
To operate the device it is only necessary to press door B inward until it has cleared the jamb of the door; then rotate the door half around and reverse it up and back against the inside of the silo wall or upper part of frame A, as indicated by Fig. 3 of the drawings; to close the door, simply reverse the operation described for opening the same. I
From the foregoing description it should be understood that after the door has been rotated and swung back it can be reversed and held rigidly against the wall up out of the way to a position permitting much of the silage to be slid out without elevating the same over a door.
What I claim and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is,
l. The combination with a silo having an opening for a door, and door jambs, of a door adapted to be rotated a half turn, swung back and up against the inside of the silo wall into a position permitting silage to be slid out without elevating the same over a door, a single strap pivotally attached at one end to the upper part of a jamb, a plate pivotally secured on the door near its top adjacent the opposite jamb with which the other end of said strap engages to permit rotation and elevation of said door.
2. The combination with a silo having an opening therein and jambs therefor, of a door, a single strap hinged on the upper part of one of said jambs, a plate on the upper part of said door adjacent the upper part of the opposite jamlo, a bolt seated in a bearing to secure said plate pivotally on said door permitting the door to clear the jambs, be rotated half way around and reversed up and back against the inside of the silo wall and upper part of a jamb.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DXVIGHT SVVINFORD.
Witnesses F. B. DAILEY, EVANGELINE O. GiBBoNs.
