Description

No. 683,06I. Patented Sept. 24, 1901.
A H. NOBDTMEYEB.
PORTABLE FILTERING APPARATUS.
(Application filed May 27, 1901.)
(No Model.)
UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERMANN NORDTMEYER, OF CELLE, GERMANY.
PORTABLE FILTERING APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 683,061, dated September 24, 1901.
Application filed May 27,1901.
T0 00% whom it may concern:
Beit known that LHERMANN NORDTMEYER, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Oelle, Province of Hanover, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Filtering Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention provides a portable apparatus which can be packed for transportation into a very small space conveniently, quickly, and firmly without special care, so that it is easily stowed, which can be put into operation at once in any desired place, the packing-case being adapted for use as the stand of the apparatus, and which can then be quickly and securely repacked. The packing-case when closed may be in the form of a hand-satchel or coffer, or may be provided with straps to form a knapsack without any projecting parts, as may be designed in any exterior form suitable for transportation. I My improved filtering apparatus, combining the filtering mechanism with a packingcase, which also serves as a stand, is especially advantageous for troops in the field, expeditions in the tropics, &c.
In the accompanying drawings, showing one embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the same in the opened position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is alongitudinal section, the box being closed.
The preferred form of my apparatus as shown comprises a filter and a means for feeding the filter-such, for exam ple,as a pressure or suction pump connected theretoboth the filter and feeding means being arranged in such a Way on the cover of a box that the cover when held in the entirely-opened position forms, together with the box, a stand, which permits the use of the apparatus at any desired place.
Referring to the drawings, a indicates the cover of a box I), on which cover are fastened Serial No. 62,012. (No model.)
a halff of one of the sides of the box, the other half of said side being fastened to the box and hinged to the halff, as shown. When the box is opened into the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the halff of the side which is fastened to the cover rests on the half which is fastened to the box, .so that the cover in its upright position has a sufficient support and is arranged at a convenient height for grasping the handle h of the pump. I preferably provide also a sliding bolt t' on the bottom of the box, whereby the cover may be held securely in the open position. The hinged edge of the halffof the end is preferably in such a position as to bring the central plane of the pump and filter into coincidence with the central plane of the box, so as to prevent any sidewise tipping of the box while pumping. By withdrawing the bolt to the position shown in Fig. 3 the cover a can be turned down to close the box, the filter, pump, and suction-pipe all finding place inside.
What I claim, aud desire to secure by Letters Patent, are the following defined novel features and combinations:
1. A portable filtering apparatus comprising in combination, a filter, means for feeding the same, and a box adapted when open to form the stand of the filtering apparatus and when closed to serve as the packing and transporting case thereof.
2. A portable filtering apparatus comprising in combination a filter, means for feeding the same, a box, and means for holding said filter and feeding means fastened in the box when closed so that the box serves as a packing and transporting case, and for fastoning the filter and feeding means outside of the box so that the latter serves as astand for the apparatus when in use.
3. A portable filtering apparatus comprising in combination, a filter, means for feed-v ing the same (as for example a pressure or suction pump or the like), and a box having a cover on the inner side of which said filter and feeding means are arranged, said box adapted when open to form the stand of the filtering apparatus, and when closed to serve as the packing and transporting case thereof.
4:. A portable filtering apparatus comprising in combination, a filter, means for feeding the same (as for example a pressure or apparatus during its operation, and a bolt'i suction pump or the like), and a box having on the bottom of the box for holding the cover a cover on the inner side of which said filter in its open position.
and feeding means are arranged, said box In Witness whereof I have hereunto signed I 5 5 adapted when open to form the stand of the my name in the presence of two subscribing filtering apparatus, and when closed to serve witnesses.
as the packing and transporting case thereof,
a halff of a side of the box being fastened to HERMANN NORDTMEYER.
the cover, the other half of said side being Witnesses: 1o fastened to the box and hinged to the half f, LEONORE RASCH,
whereby a secure support is obtained for the JAY WHITE.
