Description

N. 630,959. memmug. 2o, mm. J. E4` BELL.
(Application led. Apr; 25, 1901.)
(No Model.)
" Nrrnn @rari-3s arhnr lirica JOHN ED. BELL, or cAsK'Y, KENTUCKY.
sTovE-i-iooo.
srnoirrcaron forming part of Letters Patent No. 680,959, dated August 2o, 1901i.
Application ned April 25; 1901.
To all whom t may concern:
Be itknown that I, JOHN En. BELL, a citizen 'of the United States, residing at Cesky, in the county of Christian and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Hoods; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to stove-hoods for heating-stoves.
The object of the invention is to provide a stove-hood of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive of production and by means of which gases and other obnoxious odors emanating from the stove will be prevented from discharging into the room and will be conducted np and out through the smoke-pipe.
With these and other objects in View the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated my invention in a sectional perspective view.
In the drawing, l denotes the upper portion of a heating-stove, which may be of any well-known or approved construction, and 2 a smoke-pipe, which preferably consists of sections ct, b, and c, the section o being cylindrical and connected to a nipple d, extending upwardly from the body of the stove, the section h being in the form of a truncated cone and having its lower end inserted in or connected to the section c and provided above its point of connection with the section c with exit-perforations f,and the section d being secured to the upper end of the section Z) and being of a diameter corresponding to' that of the upper end of said section b and of a diameter greater than the lower portion of section b and section c.
3 denotes a stove-hood, preferably cylindrical in form and provided at its lower end Serial No. 57,379. (No model.)
with an annular perforated flange 4l, the inner edge of which is seated upon an annular shoulder 5, secured to the body of the stove. This flange is provided with an annular row of apertures 6 and supports a rotary damper 7, provided with a corresponding row of apertures 8. This damper is operated by a handle 9, so as to cause its apertures or perforations to register with those of the annular iange 4, and thus prevent soot and dust from dropping down into the room from the hood when the stove is not in use. i
The upper end of the hood 3 is provided with an upwardly-projecting pipe lO,` which surrounds a portion of the section o, the section b, and is secured to the lower end of the section ct of the smoke-pipe, thus forming an air-spacell between said sections and pipe, which air-space communicates with the interior of the hood.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation. By the employment of a hood of this character gases and all obnoxious fumes given od by the stove, instead of escaping into the room, to the annoyance and displeasure of its occupants, will be conducted up the hood, escape through the perforations f into the section b of the stovepipe, and from said stovepipe into the chimney and out into the open air.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and details of construction may be made within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a stovepipe consisting of sections d, b and o, the section b being in the form of a hollow truncated cone and provided with perforations near its lower end, and the section c being of less diameter than the sections a and b and connected to the lower end of the section I) at a point below the `perforations therein, of a hood which In testimony whereof have hereunto set projects downwardly below the lower end of my hand in presence of two subscribing Wit; the section e and. is provided with a pipe nesses.
which surrounds a portion of the section c, JOHN ED. BELL; and section b being connected at its upper Witnesses: end to the lower end of the section a, sulo-k JNO. M. WICKS,
stantially as set forth. XV. W. WATSON.
