PAUL ESOH, OF MILWAUKEE, \VISCONSIN.
MUSTACHE-GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 679,303, dated July 30, 1901. Application filed May 19, 1900. Serial No. 17,186. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL EsCH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet Articles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention has for its object to provide simple economical devices for the care of mustaches; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents an elevation of a toilet article in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 a similar view of the same applied to the face of a man having a mustache.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A indicates a web of pliable material, preferably silk gauze, having concave upper and lower edges, whereby the narrowest portion of the web is midway of its length. The ends of the web are bound with thin leather B or other suiable material folded on stiffeners O, of sheet metal. The stiffeners are bent on loops of elastic cords D, and in connection with the outer ends of these loops are members E F of a hook-and-eye fastener. Intermediate of the binders l3 and members of the aforesaid fastener it is preferable to employ windings of fine wire G as a means for joining the strands of the elastic-cord loops, but other means may be utilized to obtain the same result.
It has been found that if a slightly-moistened mustache be laid to suit the fancy of the wearer and then bound for a short time with a device similar to the one herein set forth the hair of said mustache will remain in arranged position much longer than is ordinarily the case.
To apply the aforesaid device, the web portion thereof is laid over a mustache, the elastic-cord loops caught on the ears of the wearer, and the hook and eye caught together back of his head, the narrowest portion of the web being central under the nose of said wearer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A toilet article comprising a Web of silk gauze having gradual increase of width from center to ends, binding material fastened to the web ends, bent stiffeners in folds of the binding material, and attaching cord-loops caught in the stiffeners.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of lViscousin, in the presence of two witnesses.
PAUL ESOII.
