Description

@uiten fates getint ffice.
IMPROVED FRAME FOR MOSQUITO-BARS.
@the tigehul'e rcfemh It in tigre tittett utmt antmtting'part nt the time.
'ro ALL wHoM IT MAY coNcERN:
Be it known that I, DANIEL HcHUGH, of Mainville, in Warrenl county, in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Frames for Mosquito-Bars; and Ido hereby declare that 4the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I
Figure 1 represents a top view of my improved frame.
Figure 2 represents an end view of the same, with its attachments for supporting it upon a bedstead.
In the drawings a indicates the central frame-piece, to the ends of which there are two uprights or posts, framed. The posts b are supported in metal loops c e, fastened to the bedstead at the head and foot thereof, and uphold the entire frame. The half frames d e e are hinged to the central frame-piece a, as represented at 2 2 in the drawings. The hinges are so constructed as to permit the half frames, or either of them, to be raised or lowered to any extent. Connected with two of the end pieces e of the framesthere are two pawlsff, which rest with their lower ends in notches upon one of the uprights b, for the purpose of holding the frames d e e. These frames may be adjusted up or down by means of. these hinged pawls ff. The pawls may be made of at springs of metal, riveted at one end tothe frame-pieces e e', or there may be spiral springs connected with the hinged pawls ff, to cause them to heal` against the serrated sides of upright Z1. 0n the under side of the central frame-piece a there is fastened a spiral spring, g, with an extension of the wire forming the spring terminating with a tube which will accommodate the handle of a fan. This tube h may be provided with a set-screw for holding the fan. i
Frames constructed in accordance with my improved method may be readily attached to bedsteads of any description or width, and by adjusting. the half frames which support a. mosquito-bar, the bar may be brought in contact with the sides of the narrowest beds' or with the widest; besides, these frames may be ccmpactly folded for transportation. i
It will be seen that the fan will continue its vibrations for a considerable length of time, if once moved by the hand of an invalid orother person. Y
I am aware that dierent plans of constructing frames for bedsteads and automatic fans have been proposed, but for simplicity, cheapness, and general adaptability, as well as convenience' in transportation, I have found none equal to my improvement.
The buttons :c will serve to fasten the fabric which composee` the mosquito-bar to the frames.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of'the two hinged half frames de e', with the central frame-piece a,'to which the fan mechanism is connected; and the serrated post b and pawls ff, when' the parts are adjustabl-y connected and arranged to operate in the manner described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of June, 1867.
DANIEL MeHUGH.
