COMBINED NECKTlE-*FASTENER AND COLLAR-BUTTON.
SFECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 677,264, dated J' une 25, 1901;l
Application filed August 5j 1899.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORIN H. PEAK, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Parsons, in the county of Labette and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Combined Necktie-Fastener and Collar-Button, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combined necktie-fasteners and collar-buttons in which a spring and levers and pins or points hold the necktie in position, and the whole constitutes a collar-button; and the objects of my invention are to provide levers and points to hold a ribbon tie in place as it is being tied, and to hold the bow as it is being tied, and to hold the bows in position so that they will not twist or otherwise get out of exact position when they are tied. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figures l, 2, and 3 are side views of the device with the parts in different positions, as will be described; and Figs. d and 5 are elevations of the opposite sides of the device, taken at a right angle to Fig. 2, with the parts in the position shown in said Fig. 2.
Fig. l shows the invention with lever f down and the button standing on its base, in which g represents the points, and c' is a spring. b is the post of the button, and a is the base of the button, and d is the hinge of lever f.
Fig. 2 shows the button standing on its base and levers turned down.
Fig. 3 shows the invention on the base a of the button, with leverf turned up and a point g extending at a right angle to the upper end thereof and spring c.
Fig. is the invention standing on its base with its spring exhibited, and Fig. 5 is the same showing the opposite side.
This tie-fastener and collar-button is designed for use by ladies or gentlemen with narrow or string ties.
In use adjust the invention as in Figs. 4 and 5 and put it through the front of the shirt-band and both ends of collar, then place as shown in Fig. l, with levers down, then Serial No. 7251256. (No model.)
raise lever f, as shown in Fig. 3, and put the tie around the neck and tie the first knot over 5d first bar and close lever f and press it so that points g go through the knot and by means of the spring c will hold the knot firmly and prevent its opening. Now use both hands to arrange the bow and complete it.
I claiml. As an improved article of manufacture, a collarbutton and necktie-fastener composed of the base and post thereon and a top jointed to the post so it can lie at right angles to or alongside the post and said top consisting of a section which is jointed to the post and a second section jointed to the iirst and adjustable flatwise against the same t0 clamp a necktie and arranged to open to re ceive the necktie, substantially as set forth.
2. As an improved article of manufacture a collar-button and necktie-fastener comprising the button-post, the top jointed thereto, the lever jointed to the top, and the spring secured between its ends to the top and arranged at one end to operate upon the joint between thel top and post and at its other end to operate upon the joint between the top and lever all substantially as set forth.
'3. As an improved article of manufacture a collar-button and necktie-fastener com prising the buttonlpost, the top jointed thereto and the lever jointed to the top and foldable to lie parallel therewith and with the post when the parts are adjusted to permit the application or removal of the button substantially as set forth.
4. As an improved article of manufacture, a collar-button and necktie-fastener comprising the button-post, the top plate jointed thereto and movable to a position atwise parallel with the post and the clasp or lever jointed to the top and arranged to extend past the joint between said top and post when in position to hold the necktie substantially as set forth.
ORIN H. PEAK. W'itnesses:
J. D. JONES, ARTHUR ORANsToN.
