Be it known that I, VILLIAM ARTHUR BEN- NETT, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at London, in the county of Middlesex, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners, l

of which t e following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which while an ordinary pin g is passed centrally it appertains to make and use thc same.

This invention relates to means or devices for holding a necktie of any kind or class in proper position; and the invention consists of a particularly-'formed shirt-stud designed for use in connection with a scarf or other pin.

The invention is' fully disclosed in the following specication, of which the accon1panying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which4 Figure 1 is a perspective view of a part of a shirt-bosom and collar and showing my improvement applied for holding a Jour-in-hand or similar tie in place; Fig. 2, a front view showing my improvement applied for holding an ordinary bow-tie or string-tie in position; Fig. 3, a perspective view of one Jform of a shirt stud 0r button which I employ; Fig. 4, another view showing a modiiication of the shirt stud or button, and Fig. 5 a view of one form of a pin which is designed for use in connection with the form of stud or button shown in Fig. 4.

In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at o, Fig. 1, a part of' a shirt-besoin, together with a collar a2 and an ordinary tour-in-hand tie and in Fig. 2 I have shown an ordinary standing collar c and a strin tie made into a bow d.

In t ie practice of my invention I provide an ordinary shirt stud, button, or collar-button c, one form of which is shown in Fig. 3, and the head e2 of this button is provided with a transverse bore or passage e3, and in the practice of my invention as shown in Fig. 1 the button c is used as an ordinary shlrt-stud, and ascarf or other pin f is passed through the necktie or the bottoni portion thereoi'I and through. the head of the stud c, as clearly indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1. This, as will be understood, securely holds the tie b in proper place, and no ordinary movement will disconnect the pin from the stud,

and in practice the point of the pin aiter'be ing passed throu h the stud is passed into the hac i portion of tIie lower part of the tie.

In Fig. 2 I have shown my improvement applied to an ordinary standing collar and an ordinary string tie, which is made into a bow d, and in this application of my invention the stud c is used as a collar-button,

and lon ritudinally through the middle portion of t 1e bow d and through the head of the stud, as clearly indicated in dotted lines in said figure.

In the form of stud shown in Fig. 4 the opening e3 in the head e2 thereof is provided with a pluralityof V-shaped recesses c4, three of which are shown, and the pinj", (shown in Fig. 5f) which is used in connection with a stud made in this manner, is provided at its pointed end with a part f2, which is similar in form in cross-section to the bore or passage e3 in the head e of the stud, and when this form of pin is used the said pin must be held so as to permit of the passage of the point thereof through the head e2, and the pin cannot be removed without properly adjusting the same in the operation of 'nv'ithdrawing it from the head of the stud, and this prevents the accidental withdrawal oi the pin or the release thereof from said head of the stud.

It will be seen that the forni of bore or passage 63 in the head e2 of the stud or button shown in Fig. 4 is made irregular by means of the recesses 6*, and when this form of stud or button is employed the bore or passage e may be made irregular in form in any desired way, and the end portion f2 of the pin f (shown in Fig. 5) may be of any desired shape in cross-section corresponding to opening e3.

My invention is not limited to any particular form or style of stud, and the head of the stud maybe made of any desired shape, all that is necessary in this connection being that the head of the stud shall have a transverse bore or passage sufficient to permit of the insertion therethrough of a pin, and it will also be apparent that any suitable form of pin may be employed.
